Yesterday 3/14 the dispatcher put the main out of service for awhile to align the switches. Where are WC & UK located on the line? Did this cause the NS 524 and 522 to both hold up in Olean yard? Anybody know the scoop? How long was the line out of service?

WC is an Control Point just outside of Salamanca. No idea where UK is though.

"WC" is the western end of the Salamanca passing siding, just past the double-tracked bridge over Little Valley creek. "UK" is the eastern end of that same siding. They aren't the original names, but they work.

Check out the Salamanca Rail Museum and Ed Crists' book "Erie Memories" to see what you really missed.

Thanks WNYP431, How long is this siding, do they use it often, is it manual or automated?

Don't know the exact length, although it's "plen-tee-long". I can't imagine it's less than 10,000 feet with the coal drags that slop through there.

Both ends are manual control.
