Was informed that the former Solvay Process GE 80t which was stored at the former Alpha Cement factory in Jamesville, NY has been cut up for scrap.

These guys don't know about it yet: http://www.thedieselshop.us/GE_80Ton.HTML

By the way, did you know that the Solvay Process Company used to have a "cable road" from their quarry down to their plant? It was organized as a separate company, the "Split Rock Cable Road" company, in 1888. Started operation in June 1889.

Totally neat subject. Had zero prior knowledge of this artifact.

About as obscure as the remains of the gypsum mine and electric trolley railroad that served it, both located on the grounds of the Oatka Creek Park near Garbutt, NY.

Saw that tunnel on topo maps decades ago and went looking for it briefly but couldn't find the portals; I only recently learned it was the cable road to the Solvay plant.

It looks like the south portal is now in someone's backyard, a wall at the right angle is visible in the Google Map image which labels the now-gone reservoir on top "Tunnel Reservoir."
