The current RMC has worthwhile article on duplicating early BRILL
Erie R.R. pr0tototype gas rail cars. However, there is allusion to rail cars
(steam powered ) appearing circa 1890s.
That is incorrect, HINCKLEY built relatively large for the period ,
self-propelled steam railcars circa late 1850s for use on a Mass.
railway of that era.

RAILROAD magazine - some time during WW2 had: illustration, along
with commentary that the descendants of the designer who lived
somewhere in N.H. at the time, had plans , correspondance and
multiple glassplate images. This should be easily found in STEPHAN's
INDEX to RAILROAD MAGAZINE. Also the in-print history of
Steam Dummies from Carlton Reprints, list much earlier start dates
for appearances of those unique passenger carrying , as well as
tram hauling, vehicles.
Good-Luck, PJB :-D
