Discussion about RDC's, "doodlebugs," gas-electrics, etc.

I recently came across an old article in TRAINS magazine about the Ill, Central RR's experimental self propelled train called "The Land o' Corn" it was a two unit set that seated 102 persons and included a small galley and seated 12 persons to dine. It was called "The Can o' Corn" by the crews and ran until 1940 I believe when it was returned to its manufacturer ACF after a fatal accident in which the engineer was killed.

Is anyone else familiar with this train? It looks suprisingly similar to the Colorado DMU!

Robert E Mohowski authored a history of the NYS&W in 2003 that contains an entire chapter on the ACF Motorailers, with extensive documentation and quite a number of excellent photos.
