We have got some operators like scenic railroads now using Budd RDC cars in ways the designer probably never anticipated, like sightseeing rides on 15 MPH track. Does anyone contributing to this forum have any firsthand experience with RDC's being operated at speeds far below what was originally intended? It has been a long time since I was around the RDC cars, but it seems to me that running all the time at idle/engaged or 1/3 speed manual lockup is going to result in horrible fuel economy and very short life between overhaul of the engines. Has anyone got any low throttle fuel consumption figures or experience to relate with engine life in this kind of service?

Thanks, MX
