I am curious to know just where the big freight potential on the Conn.
River Line is between Springfield and East Northfield other than the power
plant at Mt. Tom?
I am sure that every town along that line soaks the railroad as much as
they can for property tax but I wonder just how much freight business is
really left there. Most of Southern New England has lost a hugh
percentage of its heavy industry and I doubt if this area is any exception.
This is not the first or only line that has suffered a huge loss of business
over the past several years and it will not get any better any time in the
forseeable future.
At least they are keeping this line in operation but I can't see them really
making any money on it and fixing up the track will probably not improve
it for them anyway.
If Massachusetts considers passenger service important on this line,
maybe they would provide funds to fix it up but apparently the state does
not consider railroad passenger service to be important in this area.
