Has this occured? Are all Conrail Blues gone? No, there are currently 250 former Conrail locomotives on the NS active roster still in blue. The locomotive is equipped with an Ecotrans K9 APU (Auxiliary Power Unit). CSX Transportation is a partner with Ecotrans, thus the unit carries a CSXT Environmental tag indicating it meets the FRA Tier 0 emissions requirements for locomotives manufactured before January 1, 2002. That photo was taken last year. The last two NS Dash 9-40CW units in primer (9894 & 9962) were both painted on November 29, 2006. The last ES40DC in primer was painted in March of this year.

An update. These units are being gathered and stored at Conway, PA. However, so far units 58 and 59 have remained in active service working the yard in Bellevue, Ohio. Earlier this month, NS retired all 18 of the B40-8 units that it acquired from Conrail, following the expiration of their leases.
