According to my friend down in a diesel engine shop, the 3512C HD engine used in the ALP45DP is a common marine engine used for on-ship power; his guess is that the issues with it in a locomotive is like trying to use a generator to charge a plug-in electric car while its moving at 75 MPH down the i...

Funny you mention the retractable ramp...Siemens on its light rail products has such a ramp that works just as you describe. It’s actually loved by wheelchair advocate groups as I understand.

Wasn’t the station actually built by PC before Amtrak when they demo’d Schenectady Union?

McDonalds until recently used Green Mountain, but now it switched to Gavina. They started using Green Mountain in 2006 as I recall. Amtrak as I understand uses different coffee suppliers based upon the train. Cascades for example uses a not-Starbucks roaster out of Seattle...name escapes me. However...

My good electrician friend actually rebuilt one of these! The motor was still great..he did wiring, new batteries, and LED lighting.

Yeah, Bombardier's Plattsburgh facility is pretty slick....my understanding is that Bombardier likes the plant capacity on this of the border as Thunder Bay alone doesn't have the capacity; some of the recent new GO cars were built there even. I also ended up talking with someone at WSDOT the other ...

My understanding is that the Talgos need frequent wheel truing at a lathe due to their unique axle design. If a customer doesn't have easy access to one, that could be a very expensive addition for a short lease. And keep them away from the PNW! 2 sets is way more than enough; we're suffering their...

With specialized fixtures, maybe not easier. Besides, Mr. Norman reminds us that Talgo America seems to be able to set up shop at a moderately well-equipped shop, churn out cars, and close down within a matter of months. Hmm - I wonder if there is an issue with build quality that is keeping potenti...

Easier to catch the Starlight units at the end of their run maybe? It does seem more expensive to keep help and buy land. Well, Oakland handles the F59 better and they have an proper service building verses Seattle, which did work on P42 engines out in the open, which I am sure crews love working o...
