Empire Builder I know from experience gets a lot of pickups in Washington state to and from Seattle to the point where the next super long term goal is to extend Cascades service to Spokane.

Interesting, I had no idea the city turned down Iacoca. Talk about a short-sighted move. Thirty more years of deterioration for the building and the city and it's that harder to get it going again. That said, Corktown (the neighborhood surrounding MCS), at least on US12/Michigan Ave, is coming arou...

Interesting twist...like I mentioned before, when Lee Iacocca was at the helm of Chrysler, he was looking for a replacement for their Highland Park headquarters and actually was interested in MCS; but when he talked with the city, they weren’t interested in selling it to Chrysler. And visibility was...

A police officer/security person would not have the right radio for contacting the train. Only a qualified RR person could be in position with ability to contact to relieve the stop order. Once they are in place, if contact is made you don't have to slow down, at least on my Class one. I’ve seen BN...

I always thought that Albany-Schenectady Commuter Rail would be a natural route; I know there is demand; for the most part yes, Park and Rides would be needed but for most destinations in downtown cores, the existing CDTA routes are OK. A Saratoga Springs-Schenectady-Albany route would be good too.

I'm a tow truck driver, while I have never towed a entire train set (ha), I know of some heavy hauler class A drivers who have; surprisingly, these kind of moves happen at least once a day at short distances as I have been told. And yes, the family firm had to put together a jig in this case, but ap...

I've been in it once on a trip on the Coast Starlight to San Jose from Portland; it was OK. It seemed like it was due for a refresh for sure. I do know that the Oakland and Seattle shop fplks hate them as not just parts have to fabbed as previously mentioned, but they don't always get it right. And ...

Again, I’m an AAA Oregon/Idaho Employee.

I have confirmed it is indeed true. There will be no AAA discount past February 2018.

I know the Cascades crew that stay over night in Vancouver, BC get the same 5 block of rooms at one of the hotels closest to Pacific Central.

WRT the American Automobile Association discount, Has anyone called AAA headquarters? Might it be that whatever service fee Amtrak charges AAA for the discount (many of these discounts are priced into club memberships) was not considered money well spent by AAA, so they dropped it? Might it be that...

Yes, he was getting at that with his analogy...his guess the Cummins QSK95 will be reliable as from what he knows, its from the same people who handle on-road truck engines in their R&D which is probably just as demanding as a locomotive and he would be surprised if there is any major issues wit...
