Coming into 30th St. station from the west I just passed it it’s a single track line that goes up on stone arches and then appears to swing south going through the city the track was definitely disconnected from the main it was severed and dead ended with a barricade sign and there were trees growin...

Abandoned elevated line Phili 30th Street Sta?

Looks like an elevated track that left 30th St Sta in Phili. Track disconnected from main. Substantial stone and metal bridge in area of the station. What was this and when was it abandoned? Cant believe su h an infrastructure would be left to rot in such a high populated area.

Amtrak sucks. Big time. My first time on Acela was last weekend with my 2 friends. 3 of us total. We took Acela from Phili to NYC and it was NOT cheap. We get to 30th street station 30 mins before departure time and find out the train is delayed 1 hour. After 1 hour it's delayed another 20 mins. The...

It's a shame Somerville Lumber is out of biz, they were a solid shipper on the branch dating back to the 1940s. Heck when the area was all woods they were there! I recall back in the 1970s all the buildings in the industrial park along the branch had spurs into them. Some even had those darth vader ...

I guess NJT sold the dirt lot just south of the Somerville station. It's being developed by Pulte Homes into houses/condos. Just what we need more housing. Yippie. The former row of the branch that went south across Rt 206 has been paved into a residential street named "Station Road". The ...

Around Industrial street and Jesse Street in Los Angeles just west of the river, there was a large network of street trackage. Back in the 80s several movies were filmed here. In those movies you could see wooden crossbucks all over the place. Today the trackage is all gone. The area is now all rede...

Cash is a pain in the ass to deal with. First, someone has to do accounting for it and make bank runs to deposit it. Second, employees steal. I don't care how loyal or how many decades an employees works for you, they steal. So theft is a big part of it too.

Is there a way to fight STB abandonment proceeding?

by carajul ¦  Wed Dec 22, 2021 8:50 pm ¦  Forum: New Jersey Railfan ¦  Topic: Is there a way to fight STB abandonment proceeding? ¦  Replies: 3 ¦  Views: 988

Does anyone know if there is a way a non-railroad company can fight a STB abandonment or railbank application under the auspices that the entity either wants to use the rail line or purchase the rail line?

Does anyone know who owns the rail line that is oos that travels along the CA coastline thru Loleta and Eureka and how to contact the owner? As far as I can tell it's a mess of private and gov't ownership and nothing has used the rails in decades.

Rail line in New Freedom, PA

I was in New Freedom, PA today and noticed a rail line that does tourist trains. It appears to connect with the Stewartstown RR to the east. Going south from NF the tracks get rusty and fade to grass. Going north the tracks appear to be used somewhat. This must have been an important line at one tim...

Reading Spring Street Yard

by carajul ¦  Wed Sep 02, 2020 1:00 am ¦  Forum: Pennsylvania Railfan ¦  Topic: Reading Spring Street Yard ¦  Replies: 0 ¦  Views: 958

When were the shops closed and tracks ripped up to the shops in Reading, PA? The freight yard seems to have the same layout today as it did in the 1940s, but the shop area is decimated. The 1981 images show the rails still into the shops. Does NS still own the shop buildings or are they in private h...

CNJ Broad Street Newark station for sale.

Old CNJ station on Broad street in Newark has a for sale sign on it. I think the facade is in the history registry so it can't be torn down. The building is now just a shell and would need a complete rebuild. And the row from behind the station to the bridge over the NEC has been oblitereated by new...

Abandoned track that loops PHL airport

I often fly into PHL and notice this rusty overgrown track near the runways. I checked google maps and it appears this track leaves the main north of the airport, does a loop around the airport property, goes thru a small tunnel under the runways, then goes north to two oil refineries that look burt...

Last year there was a discussion on this board of the RDG line that connected Frackville to St Clair yard. It paralelled Rt 61. This was known as the Frackville Grade. It was washed out in 1972 and never used again. Here is a pic of the line in Frackville looking south toward St Clair. The RDG freig...
