No wonder this country is going down the toilet! Once we were able to go from having no spaceflight capability to sending humans to the moon in 10 years! Now we can't even replace some overhead train wires in that amount of time? Exactly, engineering standards have been steadily declining since the...

Don't dis that jointed rail. It's 152 lb PRR speciall, best rail of all time. When you ride that line not only are you going back in time, you are getting an amusement park quality thrill ride at no extra charge.

Fortunately I do not think the catenary will ever be "upgraded". For the cost of an "upgrade" they could electrify to Richnond. At the very most what would this "upgrade" give you? 15 extra mph on certain sections of the line? Higher speeds during a handful of days in t...

Can someone cite any case law on what the Sceret Service can and cannot force a State to do? If you remember in Philly the government could not force the city to close Chestnut St. in front of Independence Hall for security reasons. Moreover, the Feds cannot force a State government to enforce any f...

The Phaze Breaks marked with DS boards are not for catenary isolation. The phaze sections run something like 25-50 miles which would be far too much for maintainence needs. The overhead can be isolated down to much smaller sections, usually between interlockings. The Phaze Breaks are to isolate the ...

Where the E-60's really excelled was their sonic appeal. They were a real feast for the ears. Not only did they sport the unique Nathan P01235 airhorn, which had a lovely sound, they also "chugged", giving the illusion of hard work. Frankly I don't care if they looked like a brick. Every p...

Train 12 was turned into Train 190, the early Morning NEC train with 2-4 MHC's that were cut off in New Haven to go to Springfield. I rode that once that it was a very interesting consist as the inland train was a shuttle. The shuttle would back onto the MHC's left by 190 and then proceed as 490 wit...

Everybody, Amtrak and the government included, needs to keep a few things in mind. 1) Attacks on rail targets will most likley not be any more deadly than an attack on any other crowded place. The Madrid attacks killed 200 people, but where were a total of 10 seperate bombs, that's 20 people per bom...
