Re: Wildwood, Florida Wye

Went through Wildwood, Florida yesterday. Looks like CSX is pulling up the wye. It does have substantial wayside signals and two well protected major road crossings so it probably is a money saving move but I would think it would be wise to retain it if they ever needed it again even if it was down...

I feel that for the region between West Palm Beach and Miami, and ESPECIALLY between Aventura and Miami, the area needs at least four tracks to handle the volume of Florida East Coast, Brightline and Tri-Rail without having too much traffic. The Tri-Rail route is already double track South of WPB. ...

Re: How to determine when a NS train will be traveling

Trains run when they run - even 'hot shot' scheduled trains are not consistent enough to set your watch by. Trains on secondary line are even more sporadic in their operation. Get a scanner and log in the radio channels that NS uses in your area - listen and learn.

Room cars basically originated during the Depression. That being the case, traveling was a matter of price, price, price. If you didn't want coach you still wanted to sleep in the most economical accommodation.

I just spoke with my sister who was on the train. They arrived in Lorton safely and Amtrak is providing a rental car with a $100 credit card. She only found out that her car was among the missing when her name was not called to pick it up. Regarding the cancelled trains, There is an alternate route...

Spin; The portion of the branch south of Wooster was abandoned long before 1969 as indicated by the June 1956 Official Guide which it is identified as "Wooster Branch Lodi - Wooster". 1944 Employee Timetable only lists the tracks between Lodi and Wooster. No other trackage was listed beyo...

On the Chicagoland Commuter & Transit page, I have noticed that one of the threads shows a recently rebuilt NICTD 1000 with a pantagraph as it usually runs within electrified territory for the South Shore Line. (Image from the thread): http://www.railroad.net/download/file.php?id=21482&mode...

Class I railroads are terrible marketers for carload traffic, and they would all be smart to realize that and sell off as many local lines as possible. Having local operators incentivized to maintain and attract local business is a model short lines embrace and where Class Is tend to fail. Consider...

STrRedWolf Through-running the Brunswick line requires a fly-over from Track 1 to Track 28 on K Tower interlock, or else you have all Amtrak traffic stopped while MARC blocks it all going through the Interlock. This means Brunswick line has to transfer to another MARC to go through. The Washington ...

While Halethorpe tower stopped being a manned location in 1985, it continued to be a CTC control Point until about 2006 when the St. Denis control point was established. The power switches from Halethorpe were moved to Connellsville once the St. Denis control point became operational. Trains are cro...
