There are only so many geographical routes between Baltimore and Washington. A most all of them are already built up with either highways or railways.

Didn't and still don't see the STB allowing CN/KCS in any form

I seem to recall reading last century that there was a cross harbor tunnel on the table, if CSX would sell the state Howard street tunnel for light rail. But CSX asked for too much, thus the Howard Street "transit mall". Anyone else remember that? I also recall that the Key bridge started...

About time for some dirt to be flying! As info - at present the West end of the Tunnel in the vicinity of Camden Street is already below the water level of the Inner Harbor. Severe Thunderstorms flood the tunnel out at present, despite the presence of a number of pumps to move the water - the water ...

Does CSX have different rules for grade crossing horn signals? Didn't sound like two longs a short and a long to me. The last scene - there were a number of shorts - there may have been something requiring 'emergency' sounding of a series of shorts to get the attention of persons or animals in dang...

I remember a news release at the time that said the X represented the multiplier effect of Chessie x Seaboard. Don't know whether the PR people understood that another letter was going to have to follow the X if they expected to collect per diem on their cars. That is why when CSX Corporation forme...

Agree MARC is overloaded. Solution is unfortunately costly as it requires first 4 tracking the NEC WASH - Baltimore and second the replacement of the B&P tunnel with the proposed new 4 track bores.. Have been getting advertising pushing Maglev. With Maglev, being a above ground operation, to my...

Noticed a long mixed freight running down the RF&P with a double DPU in the middle of the consist the other day. Both engines were powered on. Is this becoming a common practice for CSX? While CSX was late in adopting the use of Distributed Power (mostly because of communications issues through...

Why was CUT called a terminal? Back in the day of seven railroads using it weren't there through trains? Thanks for any explanation. BAR B&O trains ran through CUT as well as some terminating. PRR, NYC, SOU, C&O and L&N were basically terminating carriers in CUT - there was interchange ...
