I was at CUS yesterday when I saw on the train board that the EB California Zephyr was running over 10 hours late, with an anticipated arrival of 11:30 pm. After checking with DixieLandSoftware, I saw the train lost an additional 6 hours on top of the 3 1/2 hours it was already late between McCook a...

Heading home last weekend after National Train Day in Chicago, I saw a long lineup of retired Highliners on the Rock Island Line around 55th Street.

I have to admit this year's NTD in CHI was somewhat disappointing, compared to two years ago when I went last.

Other than the varnish on display as mentioned above, and a handful of exhibits in the Great Hall, there really wasn't much to write home about.

From my experience the basic rule of thumb about carry-ons is: If you can board the train with it by yourself without help, you can bring it along.

Joliet/Springfield Subdivision Timetable?

Next month I'm taking Amtrak's Texas Eagle from Chicago to St Louis and I wonder if there is a way I could get hold of a UP Joliet/Springfield Sub timetable (showing stations, sidings, HBD detector locations, etc)?

Thanks in advance!

She dozed off while running a train once before, got it stopped half way past a station. Also, she was late for work, account oversleeping once- who hasn't done that. It's in the report, believe it or not. Living about 900 miles east of Chicago, I don't know if these trains have conductors. One mig...

Seems like more accidents like these, just like the Harlem collision last fall, just shows how flawed the CTA's fail-safe system really is...

I'm now waiting for the NTSB to release the station/cab footage of the accident, bound to be scary as !#?@!

I believe it still operates under Anacostia & Pacific, and has perpetual trackage rights with NICTD.

South Shore Freight is still very lucrative to this day.

I'll readily admit I don't know how the locomotives were set up that day, but it is normal Amtrak practice to couple locomotives together for a passenger train in an elephant configuration, i.e. nose to tail. I am unaware of any reason for the Sunset Limited's locomotives to be coupled together in ...

This is somewhat related to this thread... Has anyone recently traveled on 49 from NYP? I'd like to know what time the diner opens for dinner. I'm getting inconsistent answers from Amtrak. Some tell me that the diner only offers lounge service from NYP to ALB, as there is no lounge car until after ...

I'm starting to get somewhat suspicious considering the runaway had to travel uphill when it left the yard unattended before the collision; and pass through an interlocking that should have tripped the brakes. Since the NTSB has taken over the investigation, I'm very curious to hear about their find...

According to NARP News, the shutdown will not affect Amtrak immediately; However if the shutdown lasts longer than five weeks it might be another story.
