I seriously doubt 1.5kv would provide enough juice to handle full unit coal trains.
^ was the Southshore not suggested as an option? I know its a schlepp from Randolph st to Union but its seems better than being stuck in South Bend. There is that option, but on the return trip my car would be at the airport and not at Bendix. Also considering the bitter cold that day walking betwe...
Unless I'm mistaken this will make UD Tower in Joliet the last operational tower in the Chicagoland area.
I rode the w/b Lake Shore Limited yesterday/today, from Rochester NY to Chicago Union. It left ROC 1 hour 15 minutes late, although it had departed Albany 14 minutes late. We departed Bryan, OH an hour and 28 minutes behind when things took a turn for the worse, schedule wise. Amtrak 29 had stopped...
Are they finally upgrading the catenary east of Michigan City?
Why again does it go to the airport, rather than to downtown South Bend? The railroad was so desperate to get away from the Bendix terminal, it was more cost effective to use the existing Bendix Lead to the airport than build 2+ miles of track/catenary downtown. I was wondering why the platform was...
CN-IC ... the MED has their own separate tracks ... if it were not for the NICTD South Shore there would be no connection between CN and MED (the only connection was taken out a few years ago and a different connection was added in 2011). CREATE is proposing a roller coaster (northbounds will go of...
I saw a westbound special through Elkhart, IN pulling around 10 cars of private varnish (including a Vista dome) behind a 7-hour late #49.
I saw today's #49 (26) running about 7 hours late through Elkhart, IN.
Last year I was riding the SWC from CHI to FLG, when it ran into locomotive problems at La Junta. This made us run 4-5 hours late making the usual crew change at ABQ impossible. From what I heard they drive the relief crew to LMY and we had to sit at the station until they arrived.
Another classic example of people trying to use 9/11 as a blanket excuse to justify their own paranoia.
30(3) and 48(3) will reroute on the AML to TOL around the derailment. I know this because I'm scheduled to ride 30 EKH to PGH tonight.
There was not enough overhead clearance on the Skokie Valley for catenary construction, and it was not feasible to lower the roadbed because of the water table underneath the roadbed. So there was no other alternative but to run third rail to East Prairie.
I'm all for respecting other people's privacy and try not to photograph or video other people if I can help it, but people also need to understand that while out in public there is no real or reasonable expectation of privacy. Now, if you really want to nitpick logic, let me ask this: What is the re...
