The latest: "emergency inspections stemming from the most recent incident have uncovered 32 rail cars with parts fastened by bolts that might be a different shape or size than what manufacturers intended. That discrepancy is being probed to determine whether it might have resulted in a disc bra...

It's now a confirmed derailment. Waiting for details on whether this was on any of the elevated tracks approaching/departing DCA.

Passed through L'Enfant today and got a chance to see the new LCD screens on the lower level, which hang from the ceiling. Interestingly, they are more narrow than the regular LCD screens (and also narrower than the old PID screens) and only show the arrival time for 2 upcoming trains. Not sure what...

Found a detailed press release with details about the new PIDs. https://www.wmata.com/service/status/details/Passenger-Information-Display-Screen-Installation.cfm In short, 3 big transfer stations are having the old PIDs replaced with the large LCD screens, AND also additional PIDs are being added t...

WMATA - Metro's latest signage efforts

Hi all, I just wanted to start a post on Metro's latest signage effort, which runs the gamut from more PIDs, electronic screens, and good old fashioned metal signage. L'Enfant Plaza is a testing ground for all of these efforts. On my most recent visit, a new PID pylon was being installed on the uppe...

I just... do not have words. We'll get to the 2029 anniversary of ATO being disabled and still not have it back up.

I thought about using Google maps, but realized I'd first need to track down a list of all of Metro's railyards because I do not know that information offhand. If an entirely new, large railyard is needed, then I wonder where Metro would place it under any of these proposals. The ones extending the ...

John, as always your knowledge is immense! I had a follow up question that occurred to me as I was riding the Silver Line yesterday past the tracks that lead to the Dulles railyard. Of the existing Metro railyards, which ones have the room to expand? I assume Dulles because it's surrounded by nothin...

John - do the WMATA railyards even have the capacity to store enough trains? I know the new railyard at Dulles is very, very large, but would it (or the other yards) have enough capacity to satisfy any of these build options? Or, would these build options need to include more railyards?

He makes good points, though what Adam misses in claiming his proposal adds only a minimal extra cost is that it would require yet more rolling stock. Which is a good thing. But his design calling for 26 trains per hour instead of 13 on the as-designed Blue line loop should take into account the nec...

Metro has completed the Orange-line part of this summer's trackwork. That work included fiber optical cable installation and approx. 25 miles of new rails. https://www.wmata.com/about/news/Two-Orange-Line-stations-to-reopen-Monday-following-construction.cfm . The Green line work begins this week, Ju...

I was reading a newsletter from my local representative and she mentioned upcoming projects by Dominion intended to serve the growth in demand in Loudoun County, especially Ashburn and its data centers. I went to the webpage that discusses the projects, https://engage.erm.com/novareliability/page/as...

I'd previously pointed out how Loudoun Gateway seemed poorly situated given the surrounding area. I believe it was SBJ who mentioned it was intended to capture folks coming from the Sterling area. I guess they're also teleworking a lot, or else have decided to access the Metro from another station. ...

Metro has released its detailed travel alternatives for the 4 phases of this summer's rail shutdowns/single tracking affecting the Orange, Silver, and Green lines. https://www.wmata.com/about/news/2023-M ... atives.cfm
