More like swap Mishawum for Montvale. Mishawum is already essentially closed, though still on the books. It is useless without major land-use changes. Montvale would be important for both Woburn and Stoneham, especially if there will be Regional Rail levels of service in the future and with the Ston...
CSX is planning to rehab a few tracks to expand operations. My guess is they will kill off Lowell switching as soon as possible.
Foreseeable future, no. But Milford via Franklin is conceivable. I'd like to see a Millis to Needham Jct shuttle after the Needham Line is consumed by the Orange Line and Green Line, but it is unlikely. Maybe if everyone in Dover died it'd be possible.
Rousselot in Peabody. They contain hydrochloric acid for dissolving cattle bones into gelatin.
The primary intent is for freight. The T-pad is supposed to move to Iron Horse Park in North Billerica at some point.
Yes. And every month, the answer is "next month" for finishing Yard 10. Maybe it will be finished before GLX is done. Maybe!
The one I can see getting minimal if any work is Gardner as the B&E will likely run from Deerfield to Worcester no stops. Good, that yard sucks. And it is always a congested mess having single track on either side of a cramped yard. The whole Gardner Branch seems like dead weight to me. Just ru...
BO-1 and BO-2 go to Lawrence fairly often, not just Lowell. LA-1 rarely goes to Boston, but it has happened if things are jammed up. LA-3 mostly does work at Shop (Iron Horse Park), and takes their cars to/from Lawrence or Lowell. LA-4 was abolished a while back when they first restored a Boston loc...
I think the simplest answer is ease of switching. The tracks in Lowell are spread all over the place, on different sides of the main lines, some can by accessed at CPF BY, some were south of BY. Lawrence Yard can be switched on the east end without ever going out on or across the mainline or anythin...
MEDOT should have been spending money on the Madison Branch instead of the Mountain Division. Somewhere with actual potential carloads instead of chasing dreams.
GLX was the initial force behind shifting more traffic to the Western Route, but cab signals sealed the deal for DOBO/BODO taking the Western Route. Eventually the Western Route will also have cab signals, and NHN/PAR will have to figure out how to get cab signalled power on DOBO/BODO.
PAR was ready to make another attempt when rumors were swirling of an NS-CP merger a few years ago. They were ready to petition the STB for trackage rights to Chicago and had documents and maps drafted and printed to make the case. A long shot, for sure. But just goes to show they've never given up ...
Someone took a video from their Lowell Line train of the GLX progress:
West Cambridge is slated to be closed as part of the consolidation of ops to Iron Horse Park in North Billerica. The MOW operations slated to be moved up there include West Cambridge, the Yard 10 "T-Pad," and the Everett Jct/Saugus Branch ballast yard. Aside from consolidating MOW ops to a...
