The photo in the Progressive Railroading article depicts the Port of Camden, not Salem. I doubt that any kind of increased intermodal at Salem would include dockside rail.

That is an amazing operation. Although obviously designed to contravene the Jones Act, it is a most ingenious way to accomplish that. You have to hand it to them.

1667 interchanged this morning at Gardiner, MA from PanAm to the Providence and Worcester. Incorrectly identified as a 44 tonner and as a "mystery".

Sorry, no idea. In my experience, these 80 tonners are usually shipped on heavy duty flats. Newport has no connection to the outside world, does it?? If so, it will have to be transloaded to a lowboy truck for the final few miles from the P&W.

Bridge is in constant use by locals to access Conneaut Creek. Always thought that was a dangerous practice, but I've never seen any attempt to restrict pedestrian traffic on the bridge.

Interesting too note that t he 1503 is only the 4th steel caboose built for the Santa Fe. (1927, 1500-1599). Also appears that it was previously painted in Feb. 1954 or 59, at Albuquerque shops. Surprised that GTW would buy such an old car when there must have been many newer second-had cars availab...
