Yes, but I assume there's plenty of paper barriers from Conrail/CSX as to what Pan Am can and can't do there, and I'd say setting up shop with intermodal is probably something that CSX wouldn't be okay with.

Yes, it takes around five hours from Hermon to Waterville, depending on how you do climbing the hills. Of course right now it's not helped with the way interchange is set up right now, that consumes a lot of time just getting your cars in order, then you have to test them, etc. It was a lot a better...

I had been told the reason it was 10 was because of the turnouts, by the time a train clears one end you just need to slow down for the next turnout anyway, so no reason to bump the speed up.

Uh, what? The roadbed between Waterville and NMJ is in far better shape than the Bucksport Branch, and have you ever even seen the Madison Branch? Night and day difference between the Madison Branch, and Waterville-NMJ.

Why would an explosion at the paper mill have an effect on them brush cutting the track twenty miles away? As mentioned above, the trees literally hit the train, and go into the windows if they’re open. They brush cut some last year when they ran the OCS up the branch, but nowhere near the extent th...

But once you start venturing into that territory, you bring up the second issue, which is cost. Unless someone else pays for it, Pan Am will fix/bandaid it in whichever way is the cheapest.

codasd wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2020 2:00 pm I'm curious why they are replacing the whole switch, was it in such bad shape? Seems that just replacing a defective frog or control arms would be faster, easier, and a PAR SOP cheaper.
Probably because they want to raise the speed on the controlled siding to 25.

Using a Pan Am crew all the way to Millers, just adding a NECR pilot at East Northfield.

I'd be amazed if autonomous trucks were on the road, and could successfully replace manned trucks within a year.

Not likely, unless said school bus drivers also happen to have a Class A. There's also a significant difference between driving a long wheelbase vehicle like a bus, and an actual trailer, which likely would take more than several weeks to properly adjust to.

It's hard getting people that can pass a drug test, and can get a Class A.

Ten cars on the ground, seven upside down in the ditch, all LPG. No leaks. It's east of the Station Road crossing in Etna, around the curve, so not publically visible, and since nothing blew up, it's stayed pretty quiet on the news.

They are still getting a good amount of cars just not in special service. At $25,000 per train it was nothing more than a scheme to get the customer to stop using rail. Didn't work. There was a bit more to it than that. There were several incidents where the cars had unsecured caps on the empties r...
