I was up along the branch to Thiells in 1970, and the track was still there as well as a small viaduct. Took a couple pictures of it on this page:

At that time, too, the line from Spring Valley to Suffern was still intact.

I lived in Shreveport for 5 months in 1993, and a short line (Midsouth Rail corp.) was operating the line through there. I took several photos of the area: http://viewoftheblue.com/photography/south93.html At that time, the Shreveport station was still there. Is it gone now, or isolated from remaini...

Here's one I took with a blue Conrail engine in Norwich, in October 1980:

I've put together a gallery of PSNJ streetcars on my site, 110 photos from the George Conrad collection, which I got over a period of time from a mailing list at the end of 2010. I don't believe these are to be found anywhere on the web, and it was sure the first time for me when I saw these. I had ...

Nice thread with some really great photo links all in one place. I'm going to keep an eye on this. I was 3 when it was discontinued, and though it was the last NYC line, there were a few in Brooklyn until just about a year before, most notably Church Ave.

Yes, at some point this would still be nice: to have external links within posts open with a new window, as most other forums do. Especially now that a lot of users often use mobile devices that don't do right-clicks. It would also cut down on your bandwidth, as when going back the page must be relo...

Are any of the lines electrified, and is there any substantial commuter service, or is it sort of like Amtrak, just token runs to provide basic service maybe once a day?

Another thread on this: http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopi ... 57&t=87716

with a new document:

Looks like good news if it gets approved.

That's great news, I hope it does come to pass soon.
There has been another thread about the line: http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopi ... 57&t=36243
Perhaps one of the mods can merge these.

When were the green vs Orange paint schemes decided, and was the color change done regardless of PCC model?

I don't think there are any restrictions if it's public knowledge and could be gathered by observation, just if it's reprinted from copyrighted material verbatim, such as somebody's book. I'm not sure even if timetables are copyrighted or in the public domain, including employee timetables. Probably...

Not sure, but I do believe most of the line was double tracked, as was the CNJ. This site is really good, with a good deal of vintage pix which takes you on a tour through the area:

Just curious, since the Empire service departs from Penn Station, is it pulled by electric locomotives for a bit using overhead? If so, where would a change be made to diesel? There was another thread about this connection, I believe with some track maps and photos, and I was able to trace the line ...
