Re: Another try at Acela non-stop service

[/quote] there's absolutely no way a non-stop saves enough time to offset the revenue loss of not stopping in philadelphia, that is especially true of the northbound which has an extremely attractive 430 PM departure time. the only explanation is that Amtrak is willing to forego the revenue for snob...

Backshophoss, not sure how long it's been since you were in LIC but it has bore the full brunt of redevelopment. The entire area west and north of the station is/will be high rise apartments. Amazon or no Amazon, the city is going through a housing crunch (debatable). The loss of all the industrial ...

I'd be curious to see what percentage of Danbury area residents work in places along the Harlem Line (IE, White Plains, etc) vs work in places along the current route (Stamford, etc). GCT travel times will be a draw at best, but if there's enough non-GCT movement to justify this, then there's your r...

Backshophoss, take a look at the link from the OP. This is a different project talking about decking over LIC.

Double tracking the entirety of the line from east of Great Neck to Port would physically be challenging at best for the reasons already mentioned (viaduct, trench), but from north of the Webster Av bridge, through Plandome, to the end of the drill track is certainly doable. From Webster Av to just ...

Last I was down there a year ago there was still at least 1 street with rail crossing it, and there's a few lots on the ROW that are still not developed.

This is a joke, right? Build a new station that's still going to require them to take a shuttle? If they don't want to run to the existing Belmont station then just use Queens Village and run the shuttles from there.

I second the sentiment regarding not thru running the service. I'd make Detroit the split point and have Canadian/US customs performed in station prior to boarding the Toronto bound train. Running it as a thru train subjects it to border delays, so now you could very well have people traveling entir...

I'd expect Montreal-Boston to be a good route along that same path you mentioned, but I don't think it would perform as well as some would expect. Boston/Montreal only has 5 flights a day and 4 buses a day. No flights from Montreal to Manchester. Compare that with Montreal/NYC which has 28 flights a...

Again, why not first look into which LDs could have adjustments made so as to fit with the expanded corridor service while still providing a social benefit to rural communities? From there we can discuss the pros and cons of keeping the remaining LDs and whether there are more viable alternatives th...

Just out of curiosity, does the state still own the grounds of KP Psych? Could that property be used for a mid branch yard? KP Fire Department would probably need to be relocated so that's probably not wort the hassle unless other locations present a more significant backlash from the community.

If South Station is maxed out then how come North Station isn't being considered an option? It's not like the service would be alone there, you have the Downeaster (don't try that "2 terminals in a single city" argument because they've already got 2 terminals in Boston). And it's the only ...

I am very happy to see Amtrak moving in this direction, and even with that, I think the threat to the overall LD network is over-hyped. The articles linked even mention that it is not as easy as just saying game over for several reasons. Still, I think this is definitely the way things need to head....

There are reasons behind Beibers failure, primarily stemming from mismanagement. I encourage all to read this article: https://www.mcall.com/business/mc-biz-bieber-bus-haddad-investigation-20190216-story,amp.html?fbclid=IwAR1oZ0kBC52KBji2CWMOvkohiunFqrqwvY3rlz_aKuBTQfCEfqAsAP9KuIQ" onclick=&quo...

Shortline has ZERO incentive to improve that shuttle connection if the amount of business they are said to do between NYC and Woodbury is true.
