Re: Silver Star Downgrade ?

The Meteor loses one full diner sitting (both ways) due to the necessity to close down in Washington due to the engine change. Not that it would affect the Silver Star (if it had a diner) on its present schedule, but plugging trains in to house power for the duration would not only keep the diners ...

Keeping this thread up to date, the SEPTA game plan changed today for the subway, el, and Airport Line. I trust that the people who dreamed it up understand what they wrote; I gave up trying to figure it out.

Can't recall a sleepless night in a sleeping car.
Overnights in coach are not fondly remembered.

I doubt very, very strongly that Amtrak would like having their railroad tied up every half hour for a dinky SEPTA train. .... but I don't see Amtrak getting on board with half hourly CHW trains. Not until they negotiate a divorce between Zoo* and North Philadelphia, like what they did between Arse...

The clues all fit. I think you pegged it but a picture would help.

Sammy2009's observations are reasonably accurate. From I-76 west, a mile or two outside the city, one can look across the river and see houses along the riverbank. Those houses are mostly in Philadelphia; the last few are in Whitemarsh Township. Regarding the frequent floods, those people are used t...

Thanks, Push/Pull Master, for revealing the plan. It speaks for itself about how much thought they put into this. Are they really going to leave all those jogs at Wood interlocking? I doubt it. Are they really going to put in a parallel crossover there that serves no useful purpose? Very costly, dou...

I suppose all we can do is see what time has in store for the west trenton line. For the 9+ years this subject has been kicking around on this bulletin board, that's an appropriate observation. The people who claimed to have see "the plans" never divulged many details; now they don't talk...

That one is shown too and it was real, but the never-completed line in question is the one that was to diverge at Chelten Avenue station and run through Roxborough.

That map is pretty crude and shows things that never happened.

The question came up in the Southwest Chief thread about whether I-ETMS..... Oh the jargon! I-ETMS = Interoperable Electronic Train Management System It's a WABTEC product and not to be confused with their V-ETMS. The Alaska Railroad bought into it as a part of their comprehensive PTC project accor...

The PSFS building is now a Loew's Hotel, but the large neon PSFS letters are still on top (or were the last time I looked). Not anymore... They were taken down around the middle of December or so. Saw it on the news. They actually had problems taking them down and almost dropped one of the letters ...

It's just a trail, not a rail-trail, built new along with the parkway through virgin territory somewhat parallel with the old Route 202 and SEPTA's Doylestown Branch.

Your query about a hypothetical, earlier Schuylkill River rail bridge a bit farther south of Norristown is the first mention I have ever heard of such a possible structure. The bridge at Ford Street was that of the "President, Managers and Company of the Schuylkill Bridge at Swedes Ford"....
