Domes out west, sure. But on NEC nothing to see anyway but slums, factories, smog, and decay.
Even when the IC "borrowed" NP domes, all you got to see was miles of flat farmland in Illinois and nightime thru the South.
On the City of Miami, basically the same thing, not much to look at.

Definitely the Hudson, and I'd add the PRR sharknosed T1 and for some runs west, the Challenger.
For diesel era, of course you'd have to have the E's, all of them, and the PA .
The classic GG1 is the top of the heap.

I rode the Broadway both before and after Amtrak. No comparison. Pre Amtrak Broadway was still a luxury train, many various pullman sleeping accomodation types, including a Master Room with shower, double diner, lounge car, Obs car. After Amtrak a hodge podge of equipment from various roads, only ro...

Amtrak at 50th will be a shadow of itself, except for NE Corridor, and a few other regionals

Favorite: Taking the Empire Builder early 70s Chi to Sea. Dome lounge sleeper single bedroom. Great scenery, food and accomodations.
Least: Any current Amtrak Regional.

I remember riding the Silver Comet Birmingham to Richmond in the late 40s early 50s. Nice reclining seats with leg rests. Really reclined enough to sleep OK. Any such reclining seats on Amtrak??

The historic aerials page I posted works. Once on the page, copy or paste the coordinates N 41.19274 W 73.88879 in the top search area. Go to aerials tab. Go to 1953, 1964, or 1965. You will see the roundhouse/s and total yard area and loop track. Also check out the 1938, 1943, and 1958 Topos on sam...

Mostly true about room cars and the depression. However, their were many 12/1 sleepers back to the teens that had a Drawing Room for the well to do.

I've explored the area around the Crossley siding several times. On the north side of the tracks, just inside the treeline, you can see several earthen ramps that were used to load clay from the narrow gauge cars to the standard gauge ones. If you follow the sand road from that point north you will...
