Re: "Up North" Gawking (District 1 sightings)

Here's a shot from back in the days when they ran south in the mornings from Keag. Same spot, different direction. The train was MABA at the time. Unless I can't see it for the weeds, the water was higher when I took this. I remember trekking out into the bog, a little concerned the footing may get ...

Re: Pan Am GE DASH 8 Locomotives

I wonder if anyone has taken the wheel loading weight of the B40-8s into account. Those units have the highest wheel loading of any unit out there, because they are quite heavy (even heavier than some older 6-axles) and spread the weight to the rail through 8 wheels instead of 12. I have come across...

Sorry I didn't see this a bit sooner. But hopefully when you say summer, we're still not to your time down there just yet and this reply is still relevant. I have visited the Speedway a couple of times, and can say it is a good thing you are west of Jackson, as there are more KCS-powered trains on t...

Any firm word on whether these units will be painted, or are they just going to be set up and put in service? I can't recall-- is District 1 good for 6-axles east of Waterville?

C40-8s are beginning to ship from LTE. Number series is GECX 9000-9023. The units are NOT painted at this point, only blacklined CSX with the GECX number sprayed on the side. No pics yet that I've seen, but this info has been verified through two trusted sources. There are 24 of them, not 20.

I think PAR has nowhere to go but up, but I can't help but wonder how Watco's company culture will combine with a unionized Northeastern operation. The Webbs got their start in Oklahoma, and are pretty accustomed to working in rural non/anti-union environments where people will work for lower wages ...

Wow, is the service down to just once a week with MNR? I went up there shortly before the MMA sold the northern portion of the system to the State of Maine, and I want to say the MMA was operating out of Squa Pan to Presque Isle and Easton at least 2 days a week, if not 3. I am almost certain they w...

The PRLX units listed are now 2856 and 2858, and they are bound for the Newport, VT interchange via the WACR right now (the afternoon of June 29, 2015). Both are SD40-2Ts in marked out UP paint, and are former SD45-2T carbodies.

The next leaser is on its way. LTEX 95, which is ex Carolina Coastal 95/former Mississippi Export 95, is in Hamlet, NC waybilled for Waterville. This GP40 holds the distinction of being the last unrebuilt Atlantic Coast Line GP40 in existence, for the locomotive fans among us.

It's gettin' there.... Operational challenges always come up in the first few movements. Surprised this news hasn't hit harder... considering a combined almost 100 miles of Pan Am trackage is going away almost over night (All lines east of NMJ). I guess the line east of Portland doesn't get a lot o...

I've been scanning this forum to see if it would come up in discussion, but Eastern Railroad News reported last month PAR was already planning to end operations between Bangor and Keag in favor of routing the NBSR traffic over the CMQ to Brownsville Jct. And this was before the Bucksport announcemen...

Nice report, Riffian. Thank you for sharing your detailed sightings with us.

I don't think there's a regional out there in as bad of shape as MMA, though I don't know what the books look like to be honest. I can think of some other large shortlines and small to medium size regionals with similar lack of online shippers to the MMA, but those also have the luxury of Class 1 ov...
