Re: M8's and Shore Line East

Turns out the CT Commuter Rail Council meeting back in May discussed this. From that meeting's minutes: Update of M8’s running east of New Haven: CDOT is continuing to work with Sistra, a consultant. CDOT is looking at the power demand. The project is taking longer than expected. Amtrak believes the...

By coincidence, a Bloomberg article answered some of my questions. Although also somewhat of a trip report, it appears the writer's main point is the money; appropriately enough the article appears on: Bloomberg.com The Amtrak That Works, and the Amtrak That Doesn’t Its long-distance trains are exp...

Looks like the dual-mode trips will not be returning in September after all:

This thread might not be the most appropriate place for these questions, but I didn't really see a better thread and figured these questions were not worthy of their own threads: So alongside the ALP-46, is the ALP-45DP also capable of traversing all three catenary systems used in the area? What abo...

The "singles" are trailers,at best,2pairs with the single between them,a 5 car set for SLE Amtrak' complaint has been the M-8's ACSES gear, might be a moot point as the New Haven line's ACSES goes online. Is the ACSES system on the M8s not up to par with what Amtrak desires? the 14 ...

I suspect the padding in 64's schedule between Schenectady and Amsterdam is more due to freight interference. According to the Amtrak Status Maps/ASM website train 64 typically leaves the U.S. side of Niagara Falls on time (Going back to January 2010, average delay leaving Niagara Falls is 5 minutes...

So July 14 will be the last weekend DM run? No. May 19 will be the last weekend dual-mode run. The schedule from May 20 to July 14 will have no weekend dual-modes as RestrictOnTheHanger mentioned. If the Montauk Branch sucking up all the diesel equipment for its weekend summer service is the cause ...

Some minutiae from last month's timetable changes - the March 2019 schedule retimed most eastbound Huntington/Port Jeff trains on Saturdays and Sundays. The retiming allows the two westbound weekend dual-mode trains (now 8:53 AM and 10:23 AM from Port Jeff) to leave Port Jeff 10 mins later, so that ...

A change that should have happened years ago, but better late than never.

It's things like these that give you hope the MTA and CDOT can actually change for the better.

I haven't taken that specific train myself, so I can't answer definitively, but according to the MTA's GTFS data (which is used in apps like Google Maps or Transit) it's currently scheduled to use the Babylon/Montauk branch. No idea if that was always the case. Not directly related to your question,...

The TBD schedule also has the 6:07 AM eastbound weekday train from Penn extended to Ronkonkoma, arriving at 7:26 AM, instead of terminating at Farmingdale like it does currently. This conveniently also provides a connection to 7:30 AM scoot from Ronkonkoma to Greenport.
