Probably getting ready for the LPG season to begin....!
They seem to be back to running 7 days, ships are consistently calling now to SJ whereas before they were blanking every other on the CES. Should start to pick up for peak season leading into the Fall, but surprising to me how strong domestic has been. The forecast for that volume was always quite l...
They probably don't, but MaineDOT is saying it'll cost $20.1 million just to pull up the track and turn it into a stone dust trail, so perhaps the idea is that MaineDOT would use that money on track repair instead of track removal. Well it'll take the trail folks some time to secure funding so that...
Government planning likes to slap the word intermodal on anything Rail related because it sounds important and interesting…. It’s probably just new switches and surfacing of the yard
It doesn't matter whether a 'legitimate' company has made a proposal to run it... you still need at least $20M to get it up to 10 MPH.... I'm very doubtful that CSRX has that money on hand or a pathway to it.
It's unbelievable, the whole point of the state purchasing the ROW, was to preserve it for future railroad use. They now have a railroad asking to use the tracks and the politicians are saying no thanks. It's clear Maine is not interested, and if the Conway Scenic is really serious about expansion,...
Two ships berthed today-- you can have a look one these neat webcams either the Fundy Quay or King Street cams. Not exactly perfect, but live stream with good quality to watch vessel activity at the port.

Well done. Not sure if it’s helpful but there is an existing Google map made that plots out the entire railroad, not sure if you can source feed this into your model.

I caught it at Jackman— customs allowed them through at 5mph, which with a 14,000’ train took…. A while…
Doubt it… they’re a long way from pulling containers or any traffic out of Saint John in any meaningful way. Give it time, global markets are finicky
CPKC is running 5 trains a week-- basically trying to run 10' jobs as much as possible... international trade is down, forecast was 2000 containers per week but they are running at a third of that. Everything is cyclical, give it a bit of time.
Creel talked at Port Days about the next step being a direct Asia call via Suez. They can now take the bigger ships too, so this is a mimic of what Halifax is doing. MSC has planted a firm flag with CN and Halifax, adding its 5th service this past week. They are running their second intermodal pair ...
The MSC ships have been calling for about 10 years... the CMA for 5. CP (preKCS) got the CMA contract last year, and MSC hits Montreal on the same call before, so no MSC via rail to SJ. So far growth has been Hapag, everything else has been existing or shifting from one RR to another. CN is done wit...
The SLR of the 90s was a fond memory-- a railroad with ambition, hope and growth. 393/394 ran regularly during the daylight 6 days a week, and 146/147 ran 4+ days a week depending on traffic, with CN run through power and often some of the latest and greatest locomotives. Not to mention the operatio...
I spend half the time in these posts trying to decode the "interesting" language.... in any case, I think I'm up to speed....
