Re: CSX Track Upgrades & Infrastructure of Pan Am

Amtrak snagged $27M for Brunswick to Mass state line for track work... also CSX throwing in ~$7M. 124,000 ties... thats not joke... wonder how they'll handle passenger service while doing that work. Also seems the future of Midcoast (unrelated) is determined as an Amtrak only line. I suspect CSX wil...

I have a tough time seeing it happen-- CN has a parallel line and customers lose optionality from going UP, CPKC or CN to being captive CN. STB is going to be harsh

Technically Pan Am instituted the return to Keag by landing the grant. Works out pretty well when half the cost is paid for by the Feds. The lumber loading at Enfield was build during a period of time when the line was largely dormant, so not exactly sure what Pleasant River was thinking... I guess ...

I believe the long term plan is i-ETMS that covers the line from Worcester to Brunswick. This would allow any CSX loco to lead, which operationally makes a lot of sense.

They posted the jobs for bid, so not sure it'll open up exactly tomorrow (unless they use existing crews) but should start next week I believe.

I was told 40 car limits to start, and they will be structured as turn jobs.

Between the Irving gateway and its massive prospects for growth, there is still a lot of meat on the bone for Pan Am propoer. Even in Mass and NH which really have always felt neglected, but for sure Maine with first hand having sent a lot of trucks out that should have been railcars. Right now the ...

If we call it a 135ish mile trip from Rigby to NMJ, that should be do-able in 9-10 hours... but you bring up a good point on switching at WTVL, you'd have to have your blocking done very efficiently on both ends. If NBSR is handed you soup, then you'll never make the run properly and end up dragging...

My understanding which is about as limited as they come at the moment is that they will seek to make a Rigby to NMJ job (and back) that is 3 sided, then run NMJ to Keag as a turn job (not sure frequency or number of crews involved).

Not sure if it was covered but the 'official date' for the reopening of the Mattwamkeag Line and interchange is November 1st.

NBSR is operated like a large terminal RR, it allows all the other Class Is haulage rights to quote business directly as though it were a single carrier move. The Keag line is already to reopen, with cars blocked and even probably dropped at Keag. Train schedules will be changed in the next week or ...

It's most likely a done operation. I'm wondering if CSX will keep service alive as a common carrier for ASA, whereas Perlite will likely be SOL.
