The GP38-2 is the former NS 5094 which was bought by GE reportedly for use as the shop switcher at Erie Building 60.

These had KC92H (right-hand drive) or KC92J (left-hand drive) control stands. Although some later exports were fitted with newer controller types, the KC92 seems to have been used through the 1970s at least. I often wonder if the early domestic Universals would have been more popular with crews if ...

GE U25B tests on the Reading

The Reading Company Technical & Historical Society's web site briefly mentions that the Reading tested the GE U25B in 1962. Does anyone know which GE U25B road numbers demonstrated and on which lines and for how long? Thanks

It also appears most EMD export locomotives in 1966/1967 were built with the 567E in the 645 block. Most late G12s built in 1966 and 1967 are listed as having the 12-567E, as well as the 8-567E used in the GA8. And interestingly, EMD lists the first G22s built in 1967 for South Korea as having the 1...

And now we've lost even more because unfortunately the LV main is now removed all the way down to Union St. in Allentown. Recently the rails were still in the grade crossings but all other rails of the main track, along with all crossing protection equipment and cabinets have been removed. There are...

GE Ft. Worth will reportedly be rebuilding 25 AC44C6Ms for Norfolk Southern next year. A somewhat surprising shift to Ft. Worth since 12 of the last rebuilds were done at GE Erie this year.

The traction horsepower quotes I listed are directly from GE Transportation's website. The ES43ACi is listed as 4,563 gross / 4,353 traction hp.

However, looking at the current products again, I noticed an ES44ACi export locomotive also exists.

This is great news more GE export locomotives will be on their way soon. As many already know, it is GE standard practice to use the number to designate traction horsepower in its domestic and export model designations. In this case, the ES43ACi has 4,353hp for traction, so it seems like an accurate...

I think it is great that Indonesia continues to purchase new GE locomotives. They recently received another batch of double ended CM20EMP from GE this year. It is clear they have a preference for GE locomotives, although they were somewhat of a late comer to GE products. Aside from the unique pre Un...

Earlier in this thread it was mentioned that the Thailand UM12C appear to have been the first GE export diesels built with unequalized C trucks. Interestingly, apparently GE planned to build the (long nose) U20C with unequalized C trucks as it is depicted this way in the U20C specification sheet dat...

Thanks, now I see that it is not surprising for GE to issue a special manual for the Chilean low nose U13Cs. It makes one wonder why more low long nose U13C's and long nose U20C's weren't sold when they were initially debuted, because GE was ahead of its competition in offering low nose export locom...

Also, I want to mention that I became suspicious when I found out that U13 Operating Manual GEJ-3845-S was released in Spanish, I believe specifically for the Chilean low nose U13C. I don't own this manual, so it may also possibly include data for the unbuilt low nose U13B. If the low nose U13 was i...

I'm curious about the first production U13C to have the updated cab and low short hood. Photos of these units are very scarce. I think low nose U13C photos may be the rarest of all the GE export locomotives! I have only seen photos of the Chilean low nose U13C which were built in 1967. Despite the &...

Later on, GE did include these MRR locomotives in its Universal production lists as U12Cs, but I understand that this designation was not included in their maker’s plate data. Interestingly, I have seen several instances in various paraphernalia from the 1956/1957 timeframe where GE themselves call...
