Re: "Up North" Gawking (District 1 sightings)

I happen to agree, I think there is no pride in a freight railroad's image beyond the head end anymore (and quite often not even then). But fixing it would cost money - a LOT of money. That's why you still see cars and even locomotives with original decades old paint schemes - it's not to give train...

In the Option 1 image, shouldn't the rendering of the rear of the unit be in black since the side view shows everything behind the gold accent stripe is black? Possible Photoshop oopsie aside, and not that CPKC is asking the general public, but that's the version I personally like best. Option 2 is ...

For those of you who have been around long enough, Bombardier was saying the same thing 20+ years ago with the first generation Acelas - "It's not our fault - the tracks are too rough". Fast forward to today, and Bombardier's successor Alstom is pulling a page from an old script they must ...

I can’t drop everything and run out to see (in the middle of grilling dinner) but from the sound of it maybe there is a rail grinder working the Worcester Sub right now? Heard unusual horns and sounds around Shrewsbury Street in West Boylston about 20 minutes ago and was able to deduce they were hea...

Well, that seems to answer the question of "will we ever see an SD23T4 around here" recently posed in the Pan Am Worcester Main Line thread. Cool.

(Edited with remark on B&A sighting removed - CSXT 1712 is actually an SD40E3 anyway, not a SD23T4)

His user name here is StefanW. I don't recall seeing posts from him recently, but now you know where to find him.

I too knew what he meant, but then again I have a business degree, in logistics in fact. It's how he said it that so amused me, and the fact that most people would probably have zero clue what he meant. "This will enable us to economically ship by rail one carload at a time, as soon as it's rea...

"We look to apply the packetisation of the internet model to freight logistics" ... whut? Now that's a guy who got a 4.0 in his business school class "How to Make Mouth Sounds Without Saying Anything Intelligible". Extra points for throwing the "proprietary" buzzword i...

OK, I'll bite: Novice: One could go to so many places with this, but being a family-accessible site I will settle for presumably paying for herself to enter the subway and hand him a sandwich versus giving him a nickle and thus allowing him to return home and putting up with him every day might have...

Yup, but it's not "the" site... it's just one of them. There are also Pantograph, TransSee, Live MBTA Subway Mapping by Stefan, etc. etc. etc. Google is your friend. I endorse none over any other - all have their pluses and minuses.

As of about 20 minutes ago (and still there unless my ears missed it) a Q426 was sitting with the head end near the east switch at Greendale and the tail almost to Barbers. No unit numbers but consist included a good number of cement hoppers on the tail and even one of those old 5-unit double stack ...

Polar Park in Worcester MA, home to the Worcester (formerly Pawtucket RI) Red Sox minor league club, has some good views of the adjacent CSX ex-Boston and Albany main line.

There are a number of websites/apps where you can track the location and number of new MBTA trains in service at any particular moment (and some give you the capability of tracking all trains whether new or not). Google "MBTA Train Tracker" or something like that. At this writing there are...

Kudos to that crew!! So often it turns out the other way around...
