I was working the hump in Deerfield the night of that boo boo. EDMO corned a hazmat car at the west end of the yard. It was a big to-do.

There is no risk - if they break it, they pay for it. The point of my previous reply was given the relatively slower speed of Pan Am versus other foreign railroads that NS power travels over, the risk of locomotive damage is minimized. But yes, the track conditions have improved over the past few ye...

That depends on if the bridge timbers are damaged and if the ones next to it are still servicable.

The possible abandonment of the West End was in the last Conrail years, 1990s. The picture was more like this: http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?2007060310421021650.jpg:bysearch:PLM:SEARCHTYPE=SIMPLE&PAGE=1&SEARCHSTRING=PLM&BOOL=ALL When Conrail split into CSX/NS the traffic came back......

PAR wreck train enroute to Nashua this afternoon for derailment cleanup. Thanks to John Bazan for the photo. http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?2013030818195124249.jpg Does Pan Am stilll operate 2 wreck trains? I had a discussion on another site and got the impression that the East Deerfield wreck t...

I forgot to mention I understand the unwillingness to dump a lot of money into District 1. Without a long term contract from Irving it is hard to justify new welded rail and a complete refurb if they could go back to just SJPO/POSJ in a year.

I did not mean to infer that the crew did a half a$$ job. I know they had limited time and did a lot of production given that time. What I meant by half a$$ is the age old Guilford mentality of doing just enough to get by and then do it again in 5 more years when it breaks. It would be asinine to cl...

Absolutely, considering people along Route 2 in Western/Central MA have "Fall Out Zone" signs on their lawns for Vermont Yankee.

I think most people want cheap power to magically be made, in another dimension.

Knock it down and build a Nuclear Power Plant. Railroad gets a contract for debris removal and then construction of the new plant. We get clean energy.

Only a matter of time with track conditions up there. Of course, we will need to wait until the final report, but my guess is with almost brand new tankers this isn't a mechanical defect.

Perhaps they won't half ass the track work in the spring.
