Re: Foxboro Commuter Rail Extension

You are right that it is not hard to double track at least some portion of the single track, but of course it is all about priorities. Cutting ribbons on new service is gathers more attention and more future voters for a politician than double tracking a single track. The best (and only) way double ...

I am not sure if there is official announcement from the Port Authority. Here is one link in the news Port Authority approves billions for airport rail projects . You can use google to find the same stuff in other news outlets. Keep fingers crossed that they use the same technology as in the JFK air...

... and from my understanding is that CSX charges Amtrak trains by the axle to operate on their tracks. Would that additional cost for dragging a dead engine be worth the time savings? Charging per axle? Is that the typical way this is done between freight railroads? It seems logical if we were tal...

While I have no access to the proper numbers to prove it, I am definitely in the camp that thinks that an electric engine on one end and a diesel on the other is the most cost effective way to do this in the US for trips where the un-electrified portion of the trip is not multiple times he length of...

Can someone with insight into the internal organization politics enlighten me why the installation of PTC became such an issue? Was NJT trying to overcharge for the work? While the equipment is pooled, it is still MN's equipment, so I am sure MN knew they had to pay for the upgrades.

Work on filling the canal might finally begin soon. The first item in the monthly board meeting this Wednesday is approval of award of the Phase 1 contract to extend the Jersey City Sewer and fill the canal. It is amazing that it took 7 years since Sandy to finally get this close to construction, bu...

Next meeting is on Wednesday, October 16 . The rail related items are: Award of contract for the filling of the canal and the extension of the Jersey City Sewer that currently ends in the canal at $39.6 million. This contract does not include the building of anything on top of the fill which will be...

Do they really? This is certainly the first time I hear that. With which power? The old electrics or the new diesels under catenary? Either and both. I’m having trouble finding a picture but they are available. Yes, both the rebuilt hippos and the Chargers can do 125mph, but the MLV-IIs at 125mph? ...

Can someone enlighten me here? So the ALP46As don't ever run at 125mh. They do not need to for NJT as commuter rail has no use for that, but were they ever tested at 125mph? May I venture to guess that the answer was no, but maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in. Then how did they ever exp...

MARC currently runs Bombardier MLV-IIs (the MARC IV series) at 125 mph. It wouldn’t have been an issue to run them in Florida too, had Brightline gotten a package deal from BBD instead of Siemens. Do they really? This is certainly the first time I hear that. With which power? The old electrics or t...

I do not understand why they keep trying to overbuild everything, unless this is a conscientious effort to make the project more palatable after the scope is reduced later. 1. There is absolutely no need for the connection to the Atlantic Branch. Yes, it seems that it used to exist and that the righ...

It'll happen. .... There's nothing in the study saying it can't happen. That's the main thing. Everything else is just political will and people not being jaded by the past..... The charger is not on the drawing board, Siemens already has all their stuff together. I didn't say that is was Siemens' drawing board  . The customers' drawing board can be as bad or even worse than that of the manufacturer's, especially given that several agencies must agree on what really ...
