They should add Millwood before it's too late. Ardsley would have been nifty. Chappaqua is a unique station, and then there's the one that looks like a Faller kit; Ardsley On Hudson.

The yard reached farther north than the picture goes, spreading out in a "Y" shape. In the early 60's, buildings were constructed on concrete piers over the north end of the yard, allowing enough room for track replacement, should the situation change and demand for passenger ops increase....

I suppose it depends on how worn and weatherbeaten -- or new -- that you want a model.

What happened right after they tore up the tracks in that area? The telephone poles were cut down as close to the ground as possible with chainsaws and removed. The ties -- There's a business on the south side of 120 by the crossing, I don't remember the name of it anymore. It was an agricultural su...

There was a blueish jade green paint which was applied to some of the E-Units, adorned with the Cigar Band logo on the nose, and I think that was rare -- implemented around the time of the launching of "Empire Service" passenger service in New York State when passenger service was majorly ...

The layout should be regarded as a national treasure and granted landmark status. It would be wonderful to integrate this layout into Exporail in Delson, but I doubt if there's enough space at Delson even to erect a building large enough to house the layout. Is there a movement to save this, or is e...

You can also use a simple string tied to a pencil or pen, like a Trig teacher using string and chalk to draw an arc on the blackboard. You don't have to spend any money, you can do this with stuff lying around your house.

Take a 1" X 2" piece, cut it at 25-26 inches in length. Measure from one end, 24 inches and drill a hole large enough to snugly hold a PENCIL or CHINA MARKER in place. At the base, make a stub notch. Plant a nail at the center of the circle. Stuff a pencil or china marker in the hole. Line...

MOTT HAVEN isn't listed, unless I've got the wrong name. What was the station called immediately on the Bronx side of the bridge?

One thing worth mentioning at this point for anyone new to the hobby since the late 1980's / early 1990's; Using plaster versus foam adds a significant amount of WEIGHT to the deck of a layout. Many published plans for benchwork using light weight materials frequently show the use of 1" X 2&quo...

NOCH and BUSCH make a roadway tape which is relatively inexpensive and can spare you a lot of aggravation. If you want to do it the way we used to do it -- try household PLASTER. It always CRACKS and you go over the cracks with a black acrylic pen and it looks just like roads did in the late 50's/ea...
