What ever happened to that switching outfit Highland Rail Services that was starting up in North Haven off of the Amtrak line? Did they die on the vine? I remember seeing pictures of a little critter in an orangey/yellow paint. Anyone know??

On the old pages of the forum, someone posted some photos of a surviving Flexi-Van Strick-Tainer (twin 20' containers attached to each other) that was languishing in North Bergen, NJ. If that person is out there can you please repost those photos? With models of Flexi-Van flats now available that wo...

Pan Am has a public delivery siding at East Newport, ME but no trestle for bottom unloading.

Two more: Traintek was formed from the ashes of Trackside Sales in Attleboro. They specialize in DCC installations but can order just about anything for you. They are more of a virtual store, but I think you can pick stuff up from them during normal business hours. I got some storage boxes from them...

Doubt it in this market, although SCA grade paper should sell relitively well as a substitute to more expensive coated grades as companies cut back on their advertising expenses. They realized that they could make more money selling electricity from the co-gen plant on the grid than they could makin...

Some spent their last years (the newest ones turned 40 in 2006) were assigned to Specialty Minerals in Adams, MA on ST and carried FSSX reporting marks.

MBTA owns Yard 21 not Pan Am. Transit Realty is trying to redevelop the property.

All of that. There is only one online customer between Gardner and Worcester which made the line expendable. The Worcester Ayer stretch has much less severe grades as well (doesn't P&W needs 7 units to move a 50 car coal train over this route?). As Worcester and the rest of industrial New Englan...

The downturn in business at MMA continues: the Irving sawmill near Ashland suffered a fire last week and will be permantly closed.

That is probably conservative. On my run, we fueled (at Cleveland) trains that had originated in Selkirk, Boston or Jersey. Don't know if they would fuel in Selkirk; but there were no other fuel stops before Collinwood. A typical CSX freight is between 8000 and 10,000 tons. Typical fuel taken on wo...

There are a bunch of problems with shipping potatos by rail out of Maine. #1 is that the volumes grown just aren't what they used to be. #2 Like the previous poster said where do they go in bulk? Hunt's Point market in the Bronx used to be the big destination and I'm sure it still is, but more truck...

At the Springfield, MA show this winter Walthers had a survey about potenial NYC models they told me they were considering doing this train. To go along with it they were considering a variety of NYC stations (I think Syracuse was one and Ann Arbor another) along with a standard NYC brick interlocki...
