1) Yes there will be "261" signaling between CPF-AS and Plaistow. This project is part of the new Lawrence station project. A new interlocking callled FROST is being installed just east of the new Lawrence Station and before Marblehead St crossing. 2) I don't know that the project has stal...

accepted yet.

Dead Engines

LOSA/SALO usually swap out BO-1's power. Sometimes BO-1 will run its
engine to Lawrence or Lowell and swap it out themselves.

BET used to do wheel work for other railroads, but not anymore as far
as I know. It wasn't often, but they have done some Conrail and Amtrak
units.

Via The Lowell Mainline

The one problem with the Lowell Line, presuming GRS went for this, is that the 4th Iron between Somerville Jct and Walnut St crossovers (No.2 Track only) has been out of service since a DOBO derailment 12/21/01! Guilford didn't bother to fix it, so now both freights (DOBO/LOSA) have to use handthrow...

Well some trackwork will be needed on the Worcester mainline because
the list of slowdowns is getting longer...

10MPH MP3 to MP7, MP9 to MP20, MP21 to MP23, MP24 to MP25.
25MPH MP20 to MP21, MP23 to MP24 and MP25 to Harvard.

That's 18MPH of 10MPH track!

The Conn River is worse...

Traffic

The Downeaster moves to the Southside usually are done with 686's equipment and a crew that deadheads from Portland. Only other related moves are rare, especially during the day and on weekends. In fact, I can't remember the last weekend move. Also, Amtrak doesn't go to the Southampton Street nightl...

Diggin' For Info

I think this rumor comes from a proposed Ethanol operation in Everett. As I understand it, they wanted to be rail-served. There would be 90-car unit train several times a week. Since a train that size or even split in half would be a nightmare to operate through Cambridge via the Grand Jct Branch an...

Thanks...I got the same answer last week off another board.

It should be CSXT/SBD 3317, nee-L&N 2861 (2816?). Trying
to get a batch number check off the unit to aid in id'ing it.

Hmmm

Wonder if Guilford would have any input on this? After all, when the B&M sold the line to the MBTA, they retained freight rights in perpetuity. So CSX would have to get together with GRS and MBTA in order to run trains themselves. The Fitchburg Route mainline is not the easiest line for freight ...

Huh?

Eyeing it? It's owned by the MBTA to start with. There's no local traffic and still has clearence issues if intermodal is the idea. There's no yard to speak of once you get to Somerville. This is one bizarre rumor.

unfortunately, the MBTA did not use that 1984 outage to completely rebuild the entire drawbridge/trestle area on the Charlestown side - not to mention the drawspans themselves. To me it the Achilles Heel of the northside. Maybe the Beverly Drawbridge fire precluded additional major work at North Sta...

Actually it was AY-Relief with the MEC 350 out of Ayer. BO-1 came out of Boston with MEC 376 lite engine. AY had 8 loads out of Ayer, must have dumped 3 off at Very Fine in Littleton and brought 5 to Newlywed. Both locals went back to their respective terminals lite engines. The REAL CATCH today was...
