And they won't be going anywhere, either.
Have the two been in fact tested to be sure they DON'T have hazmat materials (PCBs and the like) within?
If anything comes back positive, they'll be done lickety split.

So, a new problem has presented itself, with the same likely outcome headed our way
Well, one reply was just eaten due to the poor design of this website.
Simply, I believe it was the Salzbergs and there's some evidence for it.
Why does it have to be a guarded secret? Why wouldn't the process of getting 4 abandoned locomotives out of a landlocked track in the middle of a contaminated swamp surrounded by terrain, a power plant and a river be interesting? I'm just curious as to how they're actually gonna pull it off and how...
Nessman is correct, and this stuff will all get scrapped in place. Been following this for decades...back to when I was a kid and would see the APRR in action.

I'm not an expert but I thought that this was the track that was the north end of the Dunkirk, Allegheny Valley and Pittsburgh, for some reason also referred to as the "Dolly Varden." I could be looking at the wrong trackage but it does terminate just north of US 20 in Fredonia. This DAV&...
I believe I saw that there were some railcars or subway cars being made still...but I don't know if they got trucked out or went out on rails.
I'm just seeing this now. Allow me a bit to dig!
Charles, send me a private message. I can get a pic for you. I thought I had done this many moons ago!
There is active interest in the line, and powers that be are uninterested in this for reasons unknown. Sad situation.
This is from the Erie Railroad Rails and Trails page. Note that I'm snipping the Dunkirk area from the Dunkirk branch map at this page: http://www.railsandtrails.com/TC/EL/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8p5YoHtDzHo/WsE570nzrrI/AAAAAAAAAR...
Charles, let me know if you still have questions about any of the JW stuff. I have a lot of info, and many pictures, too. I'm happy to help.

OK: this paper is thin on the specifics of power and all that. There are stated cost savings through its use, where you are making your money back in about year 2 of what is claimed to be a 30-year engine. Also, there is a stated 5-year period between major overhauls. Looks to be about 15% more fuel...
I downloaded it; I don't know about the legalities of posting it even though it's a very soft barrier to get it. Let me review it a bit and check in with a friend in the industry and offer some thoughts.
