Does anyone know if a derail is normally used on the siding at that location?
Hearings were held by the state DOT in 2013 and it was decided then to close Sand Hill Rd. Crossing, with a target date of 2018. With Kotary Road work now nearly complete, I believe the next step is to replace the Randall Road bridge. After that, the crossing can come out.
Your photo looks remarkably similar to this image from the Wikipedia page for the Janney coupler: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janney_coupler#/media/File:Syracuse-malleable_1899.jpg According to the Wikipedia page, the mandated year when all cars had to have automatic couplers was 1900. The Janney c...
Obviously I don't know the details but I wonder why they did not release the air? We all know they will roll north from there, and in theory it should have been an easy thing to clear the road, then stop and tie the train down. If the prime mover was not functioning, there would be no way to mainta...
The specific proposal: Additionally, the Governor proposes to make the fees for oil trans-shipped through the state the same as oil that is imported into New York for use. Both fees would be increased to 13.75 cents per barrel, from 12.25 cents per barrel imported for use and 1.5 cents for trans-shi...
My Great Grandfather Benjamin Harrison Hall was the train Engineer on the train that had the accident on the evening of Nov. 9, 1913 he died in that accident. I have a $5.00 bill that was in his possession that night. The bill is soaked in diesel fuel from the event. Just FWIW, it's not likely the ...
This is the first year (in a long time) that Strates will not be at the NYS Fair.
It is out of service, used only as a part donor.
SST wrote:Will this basic use still apply with the new signals?I believe all of the new distant (non CP) signals are always on, displaying yellow over red even if there is no train in the area. If you see some other aspect, however, it is an indication that something is coming.
CP263 Sand Hill road crossing is torn out and gravel, conduit that curves under the road north of the tracks added, hard to tell in the dark but masts for new signals may already be added on the west side of the CP. Yes, there is a single mast up on the north side of the ROW (signal heads turned aw...
I was at Old Forge last night. Did not see any evidence of busloads (or even carloads) of pro-snomobile fanatics packing the meeting. As stated in the meeting announcements, this was NOT a forum where people stood up in front of the crowd and made their statements with the audience clapping or booin...
After reading the letter crafted to snowmobilers, what bullet points can we use to support retaining the rails? To me, the simplest argument is that the corridor already IS a snowmobile trail. Removing the rails will not add one mile of new snowmobile trail to the existing (and already very extensi...
1) Was the New York Central station on S. James St. in Rome used for passenger service after the mainline was re-aligned along Martin St. If so, when did passenger service end? I recently read an article from around 1912 which stated that the new station on the Rome bypass (Martin St.) would have 3...
Looks like the conversion at CP263 (Sand Hill Rd.) is now underway. There are sections of new signal towers on the ground, a new switch panel for the siding, new mounts for the crossing gates and conduit being laid. This is on top of a tie replacement project in the same area.
