Does anyone know when the D&MM took up the tracks within the Village of Dansville?
I'm quite sure this is on the grade up to Blue Ridge, east of Roanoke. The train is eastbound. I have some shots that look just like those. Ted
I believe I read someplace that the New York and Erie engines were taller than most others which also gave them some vertical advantage though I don't know how much or for how long. However, some of the pictures you see would seem to emphasise the height of the loads. Ted
Thank you, one and all. Ted
Can someone tell me when the A&A acquired No.112? Ted
Having just read through all 14 pages of this thread, my head is spinning. If any of the following are in there, my apologies. Erie: Avon, NY. This was the Division point, location of Divisions shops etc. I remember the roundhouse and I assume they had a turntable. DL&W: Groveland. Again, this w...
On the day of the LA&L's first passenger run, I remember chatting with one of the LA&L officials. As I recall, he said that the EL had left the track in fairly decent shape albeit weedgrown. He said, one of their biggest problems was that the EL had let the tariff schedule lapse and the LA&a...
Just ran across this post. It got me reminiscing about my days as a graduate student at Virginia Tech 1957-9. I saw the Tennessean a number of times. As someone mentioned, the Lynchburg-Bristol segment was over the N&W. When I first moved there, the power was N&W J's (4-8-4) but by the time ...
The book by H. Roger Grant entitled "Erie Lackawanna - Death of an American Railroad, 1938-1992" has a whole chapter on Dereco. Ted
Will the 11-mile span west of Rochester take care of the Byron Hill problem? Where is the peak of the "hill"? Ted
There are eleven Finger Lakes. Which one are we leaving out, Otisco? That's like folks from Syracuse leaving out Conesus. Ted
Here is a list of all arrivals and departures at Avon in 1912. This is taken from an article I wrote for the Semaphore a few years back. Passenger Trains, Avon, NY 1911 Arrival Train Depart. Orig.Branch Origin Time Num. Time Destination Dest.Branch 433 6:25 Attica Attica Mt.Morris Mt.Morris 7:00 401...
My, this post takes me back! That train went through Pittsford, NY on the West Shore. I was in sixth grade at the time and we were allowed to walk down to the Monroe Avenue crossing (about two blocks) to watch it come through. And no! Don't ask me how many cars there were. That was 73 years ago. Ted
Does anyone know what building at Kodak Park is involved and whether or not it has a rail siding?
There was a PRR position aspect signal just south of Wallington for northbound trains. I would assume there was a corresponding one north of Wallington for the southbounds. I don't remember any others - they may have been only at interlockings -anybody know? The main traffic on this branch was coal....
