I still remember the marathon trip that I did by train the last week. New York to New London, Budd Car to Worcester, B & A to Albany and stayed overnight in the old Hotel Wellington on State Street. Next morning the D & H to Montreal and I did not spend the night in Montreal but rather flew ...

The old Amtrak station in Delray Beach, Florida is still there but Amtrak moved to the Tri-Rail station quite some time ago. The building looks kind of sad and has not been used probably since Amtrak moved to Tri-Rail. I doubt if it would be practical for Amtrak to restore and use it again at this p...

Re: Amtrak - Miami to Orlando time?

It is what it is!! Amtrak is not a bad ride up to Orlando but it can not match the time on the Interstates. One reason is that the LD trains spend way too much time in stations handling checked baggage and checking tickets and assigning seates before boarding the train. Check on 98 some time and you...

I haven’t seen any extra cars on the Star. Typical 3 or 4 coaches and 2 sleepers. I have been re-reading some of my old Seaboard/ACL books, today is a far cry from the days of 18 cars with maybe 10 sleepers, 2 diners and lots of other stuff. Some of the passenger stations here still have long enoug...

In addition to being a big help at one of the non profits, it is also a good stepping stone for a railroad job down the road. The experience you get at your local tourist railroad or trolley museum can be very valuable when you go for employment in the industry whether it be a freight railroad, shor...

I would easily say it is the best experience you will find on any passenger train in North America baring NONE.

I thought that was Fordham and that NH trains were not permitted to stop at other local stations (TT) east of Woodlawn to prevent "poaching" in NYC territory. I can't remember whether there was a restriction against NH trains carrying local passengers between Fordham and GCT. At one time ...

I remember the 5406 from last years which were spent pulling trains between South Amboy and Bay Head Junction in New Jersey. This was the last big time use of K-4 s and they pulled some mighty long trains there in their years. OH those whistles and they had lots of crossings to whistle for as well. ...

Here are three: Providence (probably room in the area of Northup Avenue Yard), South Attleboro (probably just west of East Junction) and Readville which should have some space available around the old shops.

Next timetable revision is scheduled for August 6th. At that time we will have 16 trains each way between West Palm and Maimi with hourly service from early AM to late evening except for a one hour gap around noon time. Saturday will still be 9 round trips every two hours and Sunday 8 round trips ev...

I very much doubt if any of the existing stations on the Harlem Line or any other part of Metro North are un-necessary at this point, they exist because folks want to use them and closing any of them down will result in less ridership as these folks will find some other way to get where they need to...
