I ran them between New York and New Haven. The cabs were like sitting in a broom closet without the brooms.

I just received my September Trains and on the cover is mentioned "Amtrak's Loneliest Stations". I immediately thought of Port Kent, NY and Montpelier Junction, Vermont and both of them were listed numbers 1 and 2 in this feature. There is a good reason for both of these lonely outposts: P...

SS-44 the original on the NHRR and presently the museum was changed early in the Penn Central period from SS-44 to "Berk". Much later I don't remember exactly when they the new building next to the Danbury Branch and named it "Walk". That was when the present museum went out of u...

Is there not enough potential traffic for at least one daily trip to Jacksonville?. There probably is enough potential for a trip to Jacksonville but the idea behind Brightline is fast, frequent service so one train a day will not do it. I think Jacksonville will be in the cards. It can be done on ...

I remember the "Boni" Cars. Ed Boni was the superintendent early on in Metro-North and a good one at that. This was his idea and they were used when the track outage on tracks 3 or 4 was going to be for days at a time for track work. They worked quite well but back then you had railroad pe...

No stops between WPB and Orlando. I think Vero may have passengers service sometime down the road but not with Brightline at least at the start.

Per a reliable source they have started laying fibre wire north of West Palm Beach in preparation for the new signals and interlockings which will be used when Brightline starts operation north of WPB to Orlando. This is the first big step.

At least here nighttime does not begin until well after 9:00 PM and road construction often begins about that time as well. At least now we can go to Miami for an evening concert or sporting event without fighting rush hour traffic knowing that there is a way home to Fort Lauderdale by train. Noel W...

I have not heard of any changes to the freight operations, with the double track operation they have enough track capacity for both. I think they have some finishing up with a couple of crossovers although things are happening quite quickly these days. The PM rush can be busy at times with 292, 222 ...

Those old B & O coaches were a work of art, great comfortable seats, good lighting, rode very well and windows that you could see out of. The line that I rode back in 1974 is gone today so it was a good choice although I had ridden it before. I always enjoyed riding the B & O no matter what ...
