Re: Orford Express

While the Pandemic did have a effect on business, the death blow was the CP buyout. I know in the Canadian Rail Observation group, one of the managers for the train said that there was a good chance operations would cease (This was back in January) due to the sale. I guess CP was going to require th...

Irving has a few companies on Pan Am (Irving in Dixfield which gets pine logs in the winter by rail). I believe they were in negotiations with Pan Am to operate to Enfield to serve Pleasant River once the new siding is completed (NBM is doing the trackwork for the siding as well). Not to mention the...

While on Facebook I found a post from one of the railfans up north, who reported that WANM had 15+ DODX flats? Where would these be going? The only places I could think of would be a National Guard move out of NMJ, or maybe a move of equipment from overseas via Searsport.

That siding is Kyleton. Moosehead is west of Greenville. Kyleton is mainly removed with the exception of a stub track on the east end of the siding which is used to set out cars which trigger the DD. CMQ removed it like many of the unused passing tracks when they took over. It used to extend to just...

This is correct, and there was thought to be a 4th non-class I entity among the mix on this trip. More than likely Brookfield AKA G&W. I believe that is the investment firm that I've been mentioning is still in the running. Brookfield already did a highrail tour a few weeks back. It was also th...

I don't believe those were brand new, I think they got them from ACFX and had them rebuilt/repainted. They were purchased to transport oats and other grains out of Houlton I believe. I remember seeing quite a few going on CMQ and Pan Am in the winter months, but with the CP buyout, it looks like the...

MNR has been doing quite a bit of track work north of Oakfield over the past two summers. I know something like 7 or 8 bridges are being upgraded with TIGER grant money, and I think they were installing around 25,000 ties to get the main back to 25 MPH. Also the Oakfield-Squa Pan job reports late at...

About the time that they buy the rest of the Irving empire...

Pan Am barely has any police left. They made massive cuts to their police department several years ago. The current department relies on other agencies (State Pd, Sheriffs, ETC) to help enforce the laws. I know about 3 years ago there was another hobo which flew here, and hitch hiked to Oakfield an...

Re: Conway Scenic Railroad (CSRX) discussion thread

Yesterday, when in the area, I noticed the 252 behind the roundhouse and wondered what the conditions was. In terms of adding it to the "collection," my observation is that they do not have a great deal of extra space. The yard is pretty well full as it is. (There is a wrapped coach stuff...

By the sounds the 252 will be down for the rest of the season. It had a major mechanical failure on the Mountaineer at the end of august, and required the 216 to rescue it. From what I have read in comments on YouTube, the unit either blew the crankshaft, or had a mechanical failure with one of the ...

The tie gang was parked up at Jackman at the end of August.

I think the AC4400's and GP20D's are up at BJCT. I heard NBSR was expressing a interest in some of the SD60's that were at Derby as well. In other news CEFX 3803 was on NMWA a few days ago, rumor has it that its bound for Rockland.

The ABS signals were deactivated by CDAC/BAR. Most are still in place but have had the heads turned away. I know the former Bodfish section foreman had one in his yard, but since his passing it has been removed. In other news in Jackman a person broke into several pieces of heavy equipment in Pikes ...

CEFX 420/414 have been leased to NBSR after the lease to CMQ ended. I wouldn't be surprised to see the rest of the 38's make the trip to Saint John at some point.
