If you happen to do the Facebook thing, join the NYSW group on there; someone usually posts the time the 99 leaves Ridgefield Park as it happens, and you can time it out from there more or less. I'm at MP 26.15 and I've got it pretty well timed out at about 40 mins or so once it leaves RP, depending...

I was working in Weehawken until only just recently, and I have to say, the Tonnelle Ave. trains got their use. Every evening as I was going home, I'd see train after train heading up to Tonnelle Ave coming out of my stop (Lincoln Harbor) heading up to Tonnelle. Maybe most of them got off at Port Im...

Why did they close Edgewater? They progressively lost more and more of the biggest customers over there, starting with (I think) the big Ford plant which moved to Mahwah, then SeaTrain closed down (SeaTrain may have closed first). By the time the Susie Q stopped using the Edgewater tunnel they were ...

Wow, those are spectacular. Was really looking for pictures of the "austerity years", and there are certainly plenty of those. Thanks very much for the links.

In the comments below the facebook story where I first saw this, someone says that this kind of derailment "happens every day" and is "pretty minor." Obviously, it's no Lac Megantic, and I'm certainly not trying to make it anymore dramatic than it is. But that sure as hell doesn'...

Happened right near Main St. Marathon Boat Group is just south of the site of the derailment, I think. There's a new story up on WBNG's Web site now; details still pretty sparse. It says 8 of a possible 100 cars came off the rails, so I guess maybe this was the SU 100 for today? That could have been...

House track in Ridgefield Park

What's going on with the excavation on the house track in Ridgefield Park? The track's been pulled up in one spot approximately where the caboose used to sit, and this morning an excavator was digging out a huge hole and putting the dirt in a dump truck.

Railfan photography resource?

Does anyone know of a good resource - be it a website, a book, whatever - that I could check out to improve my photography specifically relating to trains/railroading etc? Like maybe there is a notable railfan photog out there who writes a blog or something? I'm usually underwhelmed by my shots and ...

Searching the web for this turned up nothing. And yet here's an entire page. And I even searched the forums for NYSW 18 as well, and saw nothing.

I stumbled across this photo on http://www.rrpicturearchives.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; last week on a slow day at work while searching for something else. Was there actually an NYSW #18? (The pic certainly suggests there was...) I haven't found any other reference ...

And I am at work after all anyway, so it is all for naught either way. Good to know it does make the rounds though; I've wondered about that for a while.
