With the MBTA's new regional schedule, I would say there's plenty of slots in North Station.

Here's the crux of the problem: everyone thought Amtrak would be gone forever by 1980. We all know that didn't happen, and now the railroads are getting bitten.

When the sixth round trip is added, anyone care to speculate as to where in the schedule will the trains be put?

Potomac River and Tallapoosa River.

I'm not familiar with the railroad thru the area. Is it one tracks, or two? If two, this is not a great plan, as a single platform can lead to delays of trains if they are off schedule.

Per Amtrak alert tweets: "Lake Shore Limited Train 48/448 which is scheduled to depart from Chicago (CHI) on 4/24 is currently delayed departing Chicago (CHI) due to mechanical issues. We will update when more information is available." Sad. Just sad. Blow up Chicago Amtrak maintenance.

Looks like Boston section 448/449 goes to busses M-T starting May 4 - June 17 (presumably for CSX or MBTA track work.) this means it’s bustitution when service returns to daily. Railroads have little incentive to dispose of owned equipment. I'd expect to see some of the Horizons and Amfleets sticking around.
