Re: Maine Central Radios 1970's

The mention of the handset made me think of these: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/549228117030046978 . I saw another photo of one with a standard push-to-talk microphone on it. I'm not sure if Motorola called those the "Handie-Talkie," or if that name was for a later generation of "bri...

So that was a "Turbo G" that I saw on the side of whatever went east through Waldoboro and Warren shortly after 18:00 tonight. Couldn't tell if it was "light engine," or had more with it.

As a certain dispatcher/TOM used to say, "'Magine that."

Lewiston Ind.: gone, because it wouldn't take much skids-greasing to get Grimmels to relocate somewhere more convenient and mutually profitable. Given the opposition Grimmel is still receiving in Searsport, I don't know if they'd be in a big rush to try and find a new location just for the convenie...

The last two ME locomotives, (RRPX) 764 and 3573, went west this morning. They went through Warren around 10:30, so might already be in Brunswick as I post this.

The 764 and 3573 were westbound one last time this morning. They went through Warren shortly before 10:30. I don't know if any freight cars were along for the ride.

Assuming I found the right one (crossing 837559C, MP 0001.94 on the Eastern Branch), the FRA crossing inventory shows it belongs to ST.

The M420W is still in Rockland, I believe. I was told this morning that 764 and 3573 will remain on the property until next Tues. or Wed. (I forgot exactly which day it was to be.) The ex-Amtrak baggage cars had new wheels put under them for their move. I thought I heard something about the snowplo...

Seems so strange not seeing the old Amtrak baggage cars and the grey passenger car sitting around. By the baggage cars, do you mean the heritage cars (ex- Adirondack/Ethan Allen , I think) 1853 and 1854? I thought those were being leased to Beaver Industries (occupant of the former freighthouse) fo...

As I understand it, four of the full-time employees were offered jobs with CM&Q. They are an engineer/freight conductor, diesel mechanic (who is also a qualified engineer), signal maintainer (was and probably still is qualified as an engineer), and the track foreman. M&E offered at least one...

The GP7 now known as ME 100 (ex-MMA 100, LMS 100, BAR 68) went westbound Friday morning. That might be its first trip out of Rockland since its acquisition by Morristown & Erie. I don't know when or if it returned to Rockland. There was an eastbound through Waldoboro and Warren around 18:30 toni...

Back in 2013 when I contacted the Warren Historical society, I was told that because it was privately owned but the land is owned by the state and because they didn't have the resources, there were no plans at that time. Okay, I'd forgotten that post. Back then, my understanding was that the owner ...

Does anyone remember the old wood passenger cars that were forever on the third track along Brigde St into the 80's or early 90's. I have a vague recollection of old "troop-type" cars along that stretch, when I worked at Parker Bros. in '83. There was also an old milk car just outside the...

That has to be one of the very few crossings on the Rockland Branch that hasn't had new crossing protection installed. Crossings in Brunswick were upgraded as part of the Downeaster project, but I think some of them already had gates. I believe everything from Park Row westward did get at least new...

I forgot that all the people who ride the Downeaster are "passenger rail buffs". Y'mean none of them are just people looking to get from Point A to Point B without driving, flying, riding a bus, or walking? Well, darn. {/close sarcasm} I think Mr. Schaeffer's nose might be out of joint be...

Maine Eastern used a temporary/movable high platform in Brunswick for many years. I wonder where that ended up... Newcastle, I believe. I think it was at Wiscasset for awhile, until the stopping place got moved from the old (as in Maine Coast-era) location just east of Water St. to where the MERR c...
