I think I need to take that back. As I look back at some of the renderings of what the finished thing will look like, what they had up when I took the pictures is still a work in progress.

The pdf is from last Nov. My guess is that the roof is largely done by now.

A couple of updates. The DCAC met last November, but I didn't notice until now. Meeting handout (with pictures) here: http://www.dullestollroad.com/sites/default/files/rail_project_update_11-29-17.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Overall they say package A is 74% complete...

I went by today - a few things of note: Ballast tamping machine is at the Herndon station. Third rail has been installed closer to the airport. While some of the switches have been installed, none of the signal lamps are present yet. No sign of the intrusion protection system as of yet. Didn't stop ...

I've read that the silver line design had it going through West Falls Church station but they cut it out of the design in the early phases. Does anyone know how they were planning on routing through that area? I never thought that routing was ever seriously considered. You would need to tunnel bene...

Fun fact - many phone GPS are still active even when the phone is in airplane mode. The phone won't be able to download maps (unless you pay for the $$$ airline WiFi), but there are cool apps such as the Android "GPS Test Plus" which give you position, altitude, heading and a few other thi...

Metro reports a sharp rise in arcing incidents. SafeTrack was supposed to fix this. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/trafficandcommuting/bad-news-for-metro-riders-arcing-insulators-are-back-with-a-vengeance/2017/10/23/5dd698e6-b80a-11e7-be94-fabb0f1e9ffb_story.html?utm_term=.ddde27ca5abc" ...

The tower crane at the airport has now been removed. It appears like the framework of the roof canopy is now complete.

So I guess these things have no form of regenerative braking. I did see that they have recently studied what the power savings would be if they had regenerative braking: https://www.transit.dot.gov/sites/fta.dot.gov/files/docs/FTA_Report_No._0086.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return...

I'm not even sure who the blame belongs with on this. Does the design and contract call for a specific range of power consumption? Did the engineering design meet that specification? Was it tested after being built to verify the specification? And literally not a single person with a functioning br...

Perhaps. The first question is how did they miss this, and is there something wrong with the cars that Kawasaki needs to correct.

Or is this just a side effect of the 7000 series being heavier than the other railcars?

What's bothersome is that this is just now being figured out. The power consumption should have been known through design and engineering, before the first car was ever even built. And that consumption should have been simply perfected upon the first few cars to roll out of the plant. How do we hav...

A couple of tidbits.

The ballast tamping machine is up to the Innovation station.

The canopy over the airport station is about half done. The tower crane is still present there, but they must be running out of things for it to do.

Adam Tuss had a report this morning - phase 2 is now 60% complete. There is a short video on twitter (that I can't seem to easily embed): https://twitter.com/AdamTuss/status/907945508978774016" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; One thing that stands out - they have begun constr...

I have seen people post pictures of WER (Windows Error Report) dialog popups, so yes the information displays do run Windows. The thing I don't get is that the people who designed these things ought to have added better error handling capabilities, and a watchdog process that can kill/restart the ac...
