I don't know how it works in the US, but in Vancouver we had a few laid off/furloughed guys from CP get a job at CN, keep their CP seniority and quit CN when they got recalled by CP.

The Canadian(once) and The Malahat(many times).
CN SD40-3 6027(yes, I said SD40-3, the official designation for these units as per the paperwork on the locomotive) has now been equipped for beltpack operation. It's currently working the West Vancouver(ex-BC Rail North Vancouver) yard with GP9RM 7216 and slug 239. First 6000 that I've ever seen mo...

Hi, I'm staying with some friends that live very close to the E&N train that runs in Victoria BC. I decided to take the train for a short trip up to Nanaimo last summer and I have to say the condition of the old Via cars was terrible. They must have dated from the 1960's and they sure needed so...
I can see it being benefical if the loco has weak batteries and stalled/shut down and is still warm It would be, but the Lube Oil and Fuel pumps and the computer are electric, with dead batteries even if you have a fully charged starter reservoir it still won't start. I'd also like to see EMD move ...

How about another re-design of the latest cab? The SD70ACE's and SD70M-2's are uncomfortable and LOUD. There's been a couple I've had the back door vibrate open...nice little surprise when you're running down the main at 60mph. I'd love to see a cab redesign. Maybe placing the head and ditch light ...
I never liked the 9000 series. They are hot in the summer. They have uncomfortable seats. One itme that was the only thing available and I had to use one as a switch engine. CP did better with having MK build SD40s out of 45s. Having run the CN SD50F's, SD60F's and C40-8M's I share you're sentiments.

I would think they'd use regular hoppers, partially loaded though.
CP's classification system unlike CN's doesn't differentiate between builders. An SD40-2 is the same class as an MLW M630.
Interestingly enough, the CN SD70M-2's don't have any CN classification symbols, they're simply labeled as SD70M-2. Yet the ES44DC's are in the EF-644 class with the Dash 9's.

Everyone says that the anti EMD attitude came from the bad luck with the SD90MAC fleet. I think that this is stupid. The model with its H prime mover was still in its teething stages. If CP had gone with the 70MAC, I think that things would be different. BN/BNSF seems to have good luck with their s...
