If they do, it'll probably be some small keep-GE-honest type of orders, not a switch to EMD. GE's products have been better than their EMD counterparts since the late 1980s (i.e., since the DASH-8 production series locomotives). So why would CP buy EMDs at this point? Because some foamers prefer th...

It is unfortunate for the Lake Superior train having all those problems... Stuff happens, I guess. Luckily that MTO truck driver wasn't seriously hurt. I'm also glad to hear that the problem wasn't the RDC's themselves, as my family is planning to ride the Malahat, after a trip to Vancouver on the ...

If the 45-ton limit enabled RDC operation with one man in the cab, then how come on the LIRR RDC excursions I rode back in 1959 and 1960, there was always a fireman sitting on the left-had side of the cab? The LIRR units had cab signal heads on the fireman's side, as well as the engineer's side. Di...

Canadian Pacific Railway had RDC-5's. It's what they called RDC-2's that had the baggage compartment converted to more passenger seating. VIA Rail Canada has one of these RDC-5's still in active service, VIA 6148 on Vancouver Island.

I have never heard good things about Pan Am. I'd try applying with NS, CSX, or some of the class 1's first.

Canadian Pacific has quite the variety in paint schemes ... if you like red paint! Newest: GEvos in solid red, with Canadian Pacific Railway spelled out on the long hood. Common: GE AC44CW "Beavers", CP Rail, CP Rail System, red & white SOO, solid red SOO, blue and yellow DM&E/IC&...

The SD40-2W's should have been retired long ago, they're tired and beat up. But the narrow cabs are ok? :) They've been a boon to the Thornton shops lately... lots of work. Looks like we'll be looking for more mechanics and electricians soon!! I'd take them over the SD40-2W's, at least the 6000's a...
