Interesting topic,here is a GP-30(ex-RDG 3614) with the small logo early in 1980. the numbers, name and logo were all 3m stick on decals.the class was stencils,later they were stickers with the blue back ground in the decal itself.

Wait till the govermnment uses putting passenger trains back on the freight railroads as leverage by withholding money like the current 97 and 100 Million dollar intermodal yards the NS is building with mostly OPM (other peoples money.) look it up.

i've changed many knuckels during my time. no one mentioned putting/getting the knuckle on the head end of an opposing or passing train and dropping it off at the break. we did that alot on the main line with may bethlehem ore trains which busted knuckles all the time on those little jenny cars. i h...

if you do some research ,the RR 's are recieving much Government , state and local funding for thier projects. As a condition of such favor, dont put it past them to advertise they are hiring when indeed it may not be a critical need at the moment. do some digging.

come to think of it ,Conrail was doing the same thing as the Reading ...we took our nice fuzzy CQI classes as NS was at the door. More traffic lost to trucks/highways,think of that next time your stuck on the interstate behind some 18 wheeler.

The Reading did what RR's will do when they get tired of something thninking "it'sjust not worth it anymore." They chase away the business. Running RDC cars with RPO/Mail compartments would have been the logical choice. In todays dollars a 2 million a year mail contract would translate to ...
