What's the plan for getting the trains through Sandpoint, with the Lake Pend Oreille crossing shut down until at least tomorrow afternoon? I see the 7 is approaching Whitefish (around 12 hours off schedule) which would be a logical place to shut down...that train could theoretically continue to Sand...

Yosemite has a very good Thruway bus service. Amtrak could do alot more to attract tourists. Rocky mountaineer, and Canadian are well known here, few would know of Amtrak. How would you market Amtrak to a family of four (and associated luggage for a week long trip) on a train to a bus to somewhere ...

LD service, the "overnight" or "2-night" service, is more "THE vacation." It should be marketed as such. Except on the train, I can't stop at a nearby attraction for an hour or two, enjoy it, and carry on. That's why we're planning a two week road-trip this summer to h...

Seems that more people value their time vs. their comfort... If I'm travelling with a family (wife, children), and we have limited vacation time from our employers, we have a choice: Spend 4-5 days "in transit" trying to keep the kids occupied in a VERY expensive family bedroom and spotty...

Understand the constraints for which Amtrak operates as an entity, determine where and how it can provide the best possible service and attract the greatest ridership, to generate the most revenue and require the least amount of subsidy, and then deliver that exceptional customer experience consiste...

The two Talgo 8 trainsets are fully, 100% owned by the good taxpayers (myself included) of the great State of Oregon, administered by the Oregon Department of Transportation.

In, Portland, Oregon you can get a cab ride aboard a GMD-1, a SW-1 or a SW-1200, depending on what locomotive they choose for the Saturday excursion.

Plus before or after your visit, take a tour of a Southern Pacific GS-4 steam locomotive, a Union Pacific SW-10, and more.

The Coast Starlight's avoidable revenue/expense ratio of 14 dwarfs any other route. I wonder if they are shifting an unfair portion of the expense to the corridors that overlap portions of the route. Despite that, the Starlight has one of the worst cost recovery percentages, only recovering 35% of ...

The ferry has a lot more room for food service. Can you imagine 50 people lined up in the little space of a Talgo Bistro trying to get their morning coffee, with just one attendant able to run the cash register and serve food? I would imagine that the space for food service on the Staten Island Ferr...

For a 22 mile Metro line, which will have 500000 riders a day. I'm wondering what modifications will be needed. Hopefully they'll automate the doors, otherwise every platform stop will be a pain in the butt having to manually open - and then close - each door individually. Also the seats will be us...

Do we know why even the Series 8 Talgos fell out of favor with Oregon and Washington? Reportedly a deal had been in the works to deploy the Wisconsin sets in Cascades service, but Washington DOT wouldn't agree to the terms. Is it a genuine safety concern? Operational cost? A sweet sales pitch by Si...

In Portland the first buses that were equipped with automatic stop announcements wasn't until around 1997. Prior to then stops were only announced on request, and many buses didn't have a working P.A. system so the driver would have to shout out the stop (or usually say it only loud enough to those ...
