I consider myself a serious political thinker of left persuasion. Would Mr Wigwagfan or others suggest that I try to get interviewed by Fox's O'Reilly, so I could get ridiculed and insulted? Mr Vranich is not a serious thinker about passenger rail. Those on this forum, and many others, have long si...

I think it is a brilliant idea, but it won't happen for two reasons: 1. It's just poor marketing for Amtrak, to word OTP as "our trains average XX minutes/hours late". It is better just to pad the schedule so much, that it becomes near-impossible for the trains to run late (until the dispa...

Greyhound is actually cutting small towns routes Mr. MDW which makes Amtrak even more important in affected towns that have service. No, it doesn't. Greyhound pulling these stops means that taking the time to stop a bus (or train, whatever) costs money, which is not recouped by the bus (or train) s...

Mr. Viranch doesn't know what he is talking about, a lot of his ideas are out right stupid. When did he really start becoming a big Amtrak Critic. Such as? Why doesn't he know what he is talking about? Reading his blog - admittedly I don't necessarily agree with him on some points (and I do on othe...

If our Government would be willing to fully fund Amtrak every year thru out it's 34 Year History There are literally thousands and thousands of government programs that ask for appropriations each year. And we could ask the same question for each and every one: If the government was willing to full...

Did a little research recently on efficiency of Amtrak vs. auto vs. airlines vs. Greyhound. Greyhound was most efficient Does Greyhound own 460 miles of highway? Amtrak owns and has to maintain 470 miles of heavy RR infrastructure (track, ROW, signals), 360 miles of that on the NEC. Apples and oran...

I find it a little odd that there is a lot of argument over Mr. Vranich's statements, but no substantative argument over any of his comments. That he does not allow comments to his blog - given the arguments that I see in this post, I can understand - all that I see is name-calling and complaining. ...

"Close-to-full" does not justify adding another car. If a particular train is running a significant portion of its route at 100% load factor, and there is no other outlet for those passengers, that is justification for adding a car. Let me ask you this - have you ever called an (800) numbe...

I also biked through the park to a youth hostel , i believe it was just over the canadian border , but there was no customs etc . That was a nice ride too , but a rough road . you could probably walk it in a day . that was the first time i saw a deer and a bear in the wild . ( we dont have bears ,a...

Mr. Madison, Thank You for helping me make my point. Mr. Wigwagfan you don't realize many people can't get a seat who want to ride Amtrak go esle where which means lost sales because Amtrak doesn't have enough cars. Again - state your source! This is the fourth time I have asked you this. I am, aga...

I would agree , care is needed . But i wouldnt let it put me off the experience . As an aside , amtraks superliner huge luggage racks ( in the coaches themselves ) , are ideal for carrying things such as bikes and camping equipment . I would carry your gear on to the train and place it in the lugga...

I honestly have to think that Congress (including the Republicans who control both houses) are starting to show their split with the Administration, and this might be the savior for Amtrak for the time being. Several years ago, you saw a Republican Congress that would never dare defy the President, ...

I find it a bit odd the comments regarding the possibility of dining/lounge/cafe services on these cars, should Amtrak use these cars elsewhere. The California Cars (Surfliner/Capitol/San Joaquins) both have two doors, located mid-car and at platform level, with ADA accessibility on the lower level....

Mr. Wigwagfan, Amtrak needs to expand Capacity on LD Trains during peak times and all times during the year. It bothers me to see the same 2 Sleepers and 3 Coaches there were on 5/6 this summer if Amtrak had enough wrecked cars out they could of ran with 3 Sleepers and 4 Coaches. Then when you have...

The following is my near term wish list for Amtrak, keeping things realistic (no new TGV style services or 300 mph maglev trains included here). If I were in charge of Amtrak, I guess you could say these would be my "pet projects", so to speak. These are things that I would like to see ha...
