Re: Ambus Amtrak Bus Service (San Juaquin Between Arcata and Martinez)

I mean, why else would you ride an Ambus? It's the "last-mile" connection when you're destination is not served by rail. It's wholesale discrimination against residents who need to travel short distances (who are never banned on Amtrak rail services) and the only service is a State (a.k.a...

People have been talking for decades. Nothing is new.

Ask them when the temperatures drop closer to freezing. Yup, same problem in reverse.

Hey, look kids! Someone drew a map!

Yawn.

Lest you think air travel couldn’t possibly get more miserable, climate change is here to prove you wrong. Just as extreme heat makes people sluggish and unproductive at best, and threatens human life at worst, it also makes flying airplanes much more difficult. I guess thermal expansion of rails h...

I've found a surprising number of routes where Greyhound (or a Trailways company) is not competing with another bus company, its being subsidized by one way or another (usually by a state) to maintain that route... I can tell you with absolute certainty that the corporate monopoly known as the Corp...

That's using the word "comfortably" pretty darn loose and fast there.

Seattle might need HSR more than its population might indicate. The N - S traffic situation is very bad and only to get worse. I-5 cannot expand and surface streets are close to maximum. And just where are you going to cram in HSR? Even Cascadia Rail admits that its scheme requires the total and co...

The fact this DIDN'T happen, undermines the entire argument for Amtrak's existence. If Greyhound served communities don't "need" this vital, critical transportation link for citizens to access vital lifesaving services like medical care...well...who needs Amtrak? The argument that rural, r...

People keep bringing this up and it's been debunked a number of times. There's no requirement that 100% of every car needs to be wheelchair accessible. Nobody is saying that. But any and every new build will require equivalent accessibility. That means handicapped persons MUST be able to access the...

More whining from the 1% cyclists who want everything handed to them on a golden platter but someone else to pay for it, because they somehow believe that they are owed reparations for riding their bike. They refuse to pay for the space occupied by their bike (which is equivalent to the space occupi...

I'm still in favor of a Superliner III fleet. There might be cost savings with an all single-level fleet, but I don't think it's worth it. Amtrak is not Southwest with only 737s, nor does it have to be. Just that pesky annoyance of disabled people who can't navigate those stairs or easily roll onto...

A very long wait at a questionable depot waiting for a train at o'dark thirty surrounded by a freeway and a body of water in the freezing cold?

Lets muck it up. Spokane - Seattle. Get a bucket load of money and rebuild the Milwaukee line. Allow BNSF trackage rights with severe restrictions. No freight less than 4 hours ahead of passenger train or have to follow passenger trains with holding sidings when cannot meet those restrictions. Shor...

Usually most airports are owned and operated by public agencies with little or no regard for profit . Nearly every commercial air service airport around me (Pacific Northwest) is self-funded, meaning it is supported by airline and concessionaire rents, landing fees, Passenger Facility Charges, etc....
